We had a tiny turnout for our September Youth Safari, but the fencing was good and exciting. In Y12 Foil, Will Langdon (ICFC) was our champion, Lytt Pienta (ICFC) got the silver, and Pax Keplinger (ICFC) earned the bronze.

In Y14 Foil, Will Langdon (ICFC) was our champion once again, David Mohr (ICFC) got the silver, and Pax Keplinger (ICFC) earned the bronze.

Fencing was fun at our Thin Mint Tournament today! In Open Saber, Levi Kalina (ICFC) earned the gold medal, Fay Vittetoe (ICFC) took the silver, and Mary Anson (ICFC) earned the bronze.

In Open Foil, we had thirteen fencers and lots of exciting bouts! Gabriel Bales (ICFC) was our champion, Luken Addis (ICFC) earned the silver, and Levi Kalina (ICFC) and Jasper Hwang (ICFC) earned the bronzes. Fifth went to Felix Cook (ICFC), sixth to Luke Tierney (ICFC), seventh to Brian Gollnick (ICFC), eighth to Garrett Morris (ICFC), ninth to Kristin Plichta (ICFC), tenth to Caleb Walters (ICFC), eleventh to River Axt (ICFC), twelfth to Olivia Miller (ICFC), and thirteenth to Fay Vittetoe (ICFC). Since we had a small saber event, everyone got cookies!

In Open Epee, James Lee (Red Door Fencing) was our champion, Isaac Hill (DMACC Fencing Club) earned the silver, Luke Tierney (ICFC) and Ege Gur (ICFC) took the bronzes, and Annie Johnson (Central Iowa Fencing Academy/DMAAC) took fifth.

ICFC had one more fencer at the FCC Regionals this weekend - Will Langdon competed in the Y12 Men's Foil. He went 2-4 in the pools, and got to fence the eventual gold medal winner there! He won his first DE 15-4 and then went down 2-15 to finish in 27th place. Thanks to the Langdons for the photos!

ICFC Junior Team fencers Gabriel Bales, Peter Crossett, Levi Kalina, and Jasper Hwang competed at the Fencing Center of Chicago's Regional Youth tournament this weekend, and ICFC's Don Treanor worked hard as a referee.

Gabriel competed in both Junior and Cadet Men's Foil. In Juniors, he had a rough start, going 0-5 in the pools but then won his first DE 15-11. He went down in his second DE 6-15, finishing in 32nd place. In Cadet Men's Foil the next day, Gabriel felt better and went 3-3 in the pools. He won his first DE 15-5 and his next 15-12, going down in his third bout 11-15 and finishing in 15th place.

Peter fenced in the Y14 Men's Epee. He went 2-2 in the pools. In his first DE he ran out of time and lost 12-14 to finish in 19th place.

Peter, Levi, and Jasper all competed in the Y14 Men's Foil. In the pools, Peter went 4-2, Jasper went 4-2, and Levi went 2-4. Then the surprise came - all three ended up in the same part of a quadrant! Levi won his first DE 15-5, Peter won his first DE 15-5, and Jasper won his first DE 15-1. Then Peter and Jasper had to fence each other! Jasper won 15-12. Levi had to fence the #1 seed and went down 11-15. If Levi had won that bout, he would have had to fence Jasper! But Jasper then had to fence the #1 seed and went down 13-15. Levi finished 28th, Peter finished 18th, and Jasper finished 15th.

We had a fun time sharing ice cream and awards at our end-of-the-season celebration last week! There were lots of tiny trophies and award certificates. Remember we are having our ICFC End-of-Season celebration this evening (Thursday, August 27th) at 7:00 pm. Sorry, no footwork class, but there will be ice-cream and big and tiny trophies and certificates awarded. Come celebrate another fun year of fencing with us!
