Had a great time doing some fire building and making a shadow board compass with everyone. It was a great class and looking forward to many more with this group.

Birch bark was used for so many things by the native Americans from canoes ,container/baskets ,and fire starter to wigwams and carriers for children and to decorate clothing. We have already used it to gather some Day lilies they are one of my favorite wild edibles.

Show and tell is a good class to do on a rainy day or indoors. We have a vast variety of frontier tools and animal pelts. And essential tools and things that would have been used on the frontier.

Fire building is my favorite class to teach there are so many ways and it is a blast to teach and watch the kids build their own fire. We primarily teach several ways to make friction fire, flint and steel and a ferro rod.

Shelter building is always one of the kids favorite to do. But there is a huge difference in a 3 day survival shelter and a long term primitive living camp.

Camp craft is always a fun class making shadow board compass, soap, candles, fishing lures, hand drills and baskets, musket balls, spoons and containers. All are a necessity in long term primitive living.

Teaching primitive traps and snares to a group of awesome and well behaved homeschoolers. Trapping is a very good skill to have because while the traps are set you can be using your resources in other areas like hunting, fishing and foraging. And the traps and snares are doing the work for you. Definitely one of my favorite things to teach.

“The human being is very resourceful. When you fight for survival, you don't think much, you just do. If you think too much, you sink.”
