Pickleball in the Sun

We’re incredibly excited by the response to our first-ever Mahj & Mingle at The Block Jax on Wednesday, June 10 from 5–8 PM!

In less than 24 hours, all of our complimentary tickets were claimed by players eager to enjoy open play mahjong in the mezzanine and by those curious to see what all the mahjong buzz is about. Guests will have the chance to learn more about Mahjong in the Sun, upcoming events at The Block Jax, and how to get started with future Mahjong 101 experiences.

Please note: The mezzanine is 21+. We will have some tables available on the main level for guests under 21.

If you have your own mahjong tile set, feel free to bring it along! We'll also have tile sets available for everyone to enjoy. The Block Jax is such a fun and unique space for our growing mahjong community to gather, play, and connect—we can't wait to fill the mezzanine with mahj!

Back on February 6th, I threw out the idea of a casual Mahjong in the Sun meetup… and 40 people showed up ready to play, learn, laugh, and build a community together. One of those families was the Carbone crew, and I had no idea at the time just how big of a role they’d become in this journey.

pb and his mom () quickly jumped all in on this “little meetup idea” and now co-host our Friday Mahj Club each week Really Good Beer Stop Nocatee while helping grow both Pickleball in the Sun and Mahjong in the Sun across Ponte Vedra, Jacksonville, and beyond.

A couple weeks ago, thanks to our friends at JOOLA Pickleball, I surprised Louis with a brand new Ben Johns Perseus PRO V paddle — and his reaction meant everything. At just 10 years old, Louis has been working so hard alongside us on this entrepreneurial adventure. From helping set up events every Friday, to creating content, appearing on River City Live, welcoming guests, and learning the business side of building community… he’s soaking up real-world experience both on and off the court.

Watching his passion for pickleball and people continue to grow has been inspiring for other young athletes, and I can’t wait to help support his journey toward becoming a professional pickleball player someday.

And Ben Johns… we’re ready whenever you want to come learn mahjong with us.
