Twenty years of doing this work and here's the pattern I can't unsee: the people chasing authenticity the hardest are usually doing it from the neck up.
Books read. Values journaled. Boundaries mapped out in perfect, articulate detail.
And then the moment actually arrives and your body takes over: the throat tightens, the breath goes shallow, the true thing gets quietly softened into something easier — and you walk away wondering where "the real you" went. She was right there. Informed. Ready.
Here's the thing nobody tells you: that's your nervous system doing exactly what it was built to do.
It doesn't care how much insight you've gained. It's not standing down because you've decided, cognitively, that it's safe now. It needs to *feel* safe — in real time, in your body, usually with someone else's nervous system nearby to witness you.
I wrote the whole thing out on the blog this week. Link in bio 🦄
