Strength training is a must but are you getting enough Cardio?

Cardio is essential for general health and fitness. As the American Heart Association notes, aerobic exercise keeps your heart, lungs and circulatory system healthy, which helps reduce your risk of developing a chronic disease like diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Everyone should aim to log at least 150 minutes (2.5 hours) of cardio every week.

If not, let me know. I am starting a free walking/hiking group. Yes, walking and hiking do qualify for cardio and it is a great way to nurture both mind and body!

Move Or Die.

Exercise keeps me sane. TOO often I have students take a break because their lives get busy or out of control....I WISH they would understand that the LAST thing people should be giving up is their workouts!!!! People look at it as a chore. I consider it as part of my daily routine It is as important as brushing your teeth or showering.....I wish people would understand this. :-( When I heard that a relative I loved very much had died by su***de, my first impulse was to change into running clothes and go for a run. Endurance Exercise: Fatigue and Recovery

What should I eat after I work out????? Here is some advice.... I like this article...takes the guess work out of it. Explanation that describers the psychological and biological mechanisms which lead to post-workout exhaustion and soreness from endurance exercises.


For my students that ask me which is better HIIT or Steady cardio....found this article and it sums it up perfectly...Both have their place.
HIIT workouts are slightly more complex. Perform your activity as hard as you can (90 to 100 percent of maximal capacity) for a brief, set time period (usually two minutes or less), then back off for a predetermined rest interval (usually three minutes or less), and repeat the cycle four times or more.
Steady-state cardio is aerobic: It requires oxygen and is fueled mostly by stored fat. HIIT, by contrast, is anaerobic: The work intervals don’t rely exclusively on oxygen, and are fueled mostly by stored carbohydrates. (Counterintuitively, HIIT makes you breathe harder, and burns more fat, than steady-state cardio. More on that in a moment.)
Both types of exercise measurably improve a number of important health and fitness markers, particularly when you first take them up, says Mike. Your blood pressure drops, metabolism improves, and VO2 max — a measure of the maximum amount of oxygen your body can process—goes up.

ladies..... Read this and loved it! A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are s*xually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no s*x life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
