Procrastination: I will do it next year.

January 1st isn't some magical time stamp for fitness.

“I'll get serious AFTER the holidays. I will eat better starting in January.
What is the point now? Halloween candy, Thanksgiving, Christmas Parties, Meals….”
Hey, Newflash. There is always going to be “something”

Whether it’s the holiday season, birthdays, trips, weddings. Every single month has something. Every day for that matter.

There are still more than TWO MONTHS left in this year. That's two months of opportunities to get stronger, improve your nutrition, build better habits, and start feeling better about yourself.

Think about what you could accomplish between now and January 1st.

You could establish a consistent workout routine.

You could learn how to fuel your body instead of starving it.

You could get stronger, improve your endurance, and start changing your body composition.

Here is my favorite though: you can beat everyone else into that new gym membership frenzy. The one where everyone and their pet goat is at the gym on January 2nd. If you are new to fitness, this will give you several weeks to get used to the gym layout, how to use the equipment etc., before it becomes completely full and you feel intimidated.

You don’t have to be super strict during the holidays either. You just need to be mindful
It is a holi-DAY
Not a holi-MONTH.

Eat Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoy Christmas cookies. Celebrate with your family. Those few meals aren't what determine your results. What you do consistently during all the days in between matters far more.

Stop treating January 1st like some magical reset button.

You could be two months into some serious progress and habit building by the beginning of next year.

Start now. Start today.

FRIDAY COFFEE WITH COACH

We build a whole lot more than muscle in the gym.
My favorite “muscle” is confidence.

I've been coaching women for years, and one of my favorite things I get to witness has absolutely nothing to do with the number on the scale, the size of your jeans, or the size of someone's muscles.

Don’t get me wrong. I love seeing a woman body recomp! But confidence is a whole other ball game.

Many women walk through a gym door for the first time feeling unsure of themselves, scared of what they will need to learn, maybe not knowing anyone.

But once they take that first step, look out. The woman who can find her “why” while also finding the courage to get started….Move… get out the way!” Because she has just started on the path to ultimate confidence.

It's the woman who says, "I can't do that," and then does it.

It's the woman who picks up a weight she never thought she could lift.

It's the woman who stops apologizing for taking up space.

It's the woman who starts standing a little taller, speaking a little louder, and trusting herself a little more.

Confidence currency is valuable everywhere, not just the gym.
Once she starts pushing herself out of her own comfort zone, it carries over into every aspect of her life. Family, friend circles, relationships and the work place.

Because every time you do something hard, every time you push through discomfort, every time you prove to yourself that you're capable of more than you thought, you're building something that no mirror or scale can measure.

Self-confidence isn't something you're born with. It's something you earn by keeping promises to yourself and doing things you once thought you couldn't.

I love seeing women get stronger, build muscle, and change their bodies. But watching them change the way they see THEMSELVES? That's the good stuff. ❤️

We may come to the gym to build stronger bodies, but we often leave with something even more valuable: a stronger belief in ourselves.

Now go do something today that makes you proud of yourself.

Happy Friday!

COFFEE WITH COACH: You need to care less.

Sometimes you have to care less in order to make progress.

Care less about what everyone else is doing or thinks you should be doing.

Your friend barely eats and is losing weight? So?

Someone else is training differently than you? Good for them.

Everybody is suddenly taking a supplement, following a new diet, fasting for days, cutting carbs, or doing whatever happens to be popular this week? Who Cares

You don't have to join them.

And when everyone around you is drinking every weekend, eating out constantly, or telling you, “Come on, one night won't hurt,”
or "You deserve a cheat meal" you don't have to explain yourself or feel bad for saying no. No is a complete sentence.

You have to care less about fitting in and care more about where YOU are trying to go.

One of the fastest ways to get frustrated with your own progress is to constantly look sideways at someone else's training, nutrition, body, habits, or results.

Your body doesn't know what they're doing.

It knows what YOU consistently do.

Train for your goals.
Eat for your goals.
Make choices that support your goals.

And maybe care just a little less about whether anybody else understands them.

Drink your coffee. Do your work. Stay in your lane.

☕ Coffee with Coach Friday ☕

20 MILES. ONE STEP AT A TIME.

This past Sunday I completed the Mammoth March.
Twenty miles on my feet!

Not going to sugar coat this. It was tough! Tougher than I expected it to be. Let's put it this way. For me, personally, I would prefer to run another marathon.

Mostly because it is an endurance event, lots of hours on your feet, moving constantly. The body wears down. But the hardest part was the mental endurance the last 5 or so miles.
Your body is tired. But then your mind checks out too.
You just want it it to be over.

Due to the layout of the mileage, there are only two places where you can opt to quit. As in there is no way out of it except through it. And they are far apart.

Quitting was never an option but it's easy to see how your mind is what needs to be even stronger than your body. Because the mind will ALWAYS give up before the body does.

One thing David Goggins always says is "can I just take one more step....."

The final mile was incredibly tough. Kristen Morrison and I stayed together on this part and we didn't say more than a few words.
Just kept taking one more step, hoping to see the turn off to the finish line. But it literally looked like those old movies with the vanishing horizon in the dessert. Like a mirage.

You don't have to see the entire finish line. You just have to keep taking the next step.

Fitness isn't always about lifting heavier, running faster, or looking a certain way. Sometimes it's about finding out what you're capable of when things get uncomfortable. And that resilience formed in those moments carries over to everything else in ones day to day life.

Twenty miles doesn't happen in one giant leap. It happens one step at a time. You don't have to be the fastest. You don't have to be the strongest. You just have to be willing to keep going.

I'm proud of those 20 miles. Not because of a time or a pace, but because I set out to do something challenging and finished it.

Whatever your goal is, don't get so overwhelmed by how far you have to go that you forget to celebrate how far you've already come.

One step. Then another. Then another.
Happy Friday! ☕❤️
