Ben Crees Racing

Ben Crees Racing This is the official page of Ben Crees Racing. After 15 year hiatus, I'm piloting the 23C Racesaver 305 Sprint Car that is owned by Kent Franks and Miles Grein.

A little bit about me...

I grew up in Estherville, IA and moved to Jackson, MN in 2001. I've been a dirt track racing fan since I was 6 months old ๐Ÿ˜‰ This was due to my parents being an avid fan of Bob Shryock and they carried me along with them as they followed Bob to the local tracks. During 2001 and 2002 I participated in few amature motorcross racing events at Saddleback Raceway. In fall of 2004, I purchased a sprint car for the 2005 race season and joined in with the Double Barrel Sprint Car Series out of Jackson, MN. June 18th, 2005 was my first ever feature win at Jackson Speedway. At season end of 2005, I had secured 6th place in overall points at the Jackson Speedway. The 2006 race season was unfortunately my last season that I raced. I had wrecked a couple cars that season and ran out funds to support the hobby of my dreams.

Jackson Nationals Recap โ€“ 9/20/25

Heat: P5 โžก๏ธ P8
Feature: P24 โžก๏ธ P20

We loaded the Boho Beauty Bar 23c in the trailer with no damage, so thatโ€™s a win in itself. Still working hard to find the speed we need with the Eyekandy Design Studio 23c at Jackson Motorplex. Not sure if itโ€™s me as the driver or if the car just isnโ€™t responding to the changes weโ€™re makingโ€”but weโ€™ll keep after it.

Thankful to start the Black Sheep Landscaping 23c at the rear of the A-Feature in P24 (out of 25). Really cool of Jackson Motorplex to let the 305โ€™s do a 4-wide parade lapโ€”it was an awesome moment!

The feature started out wild going into turn 1 as several cars got together right in front of the Recovery in Motion 23c. Somehow the RADesign Body Shop & Mechanics 23c squeezed through a small gap that was closing fast. Prayers to Rob Rawson for a speedy recovery after that terrifying crash.

Congrats to Brandon Bosma on going back-to-back as Jackson Nationals champ! ๐Ÿ‘

Now we regroup and get the HAWK WINGS by 1 OFF Fabrication 23c ready for the last race of the seasonโ€”The Fall Classic at Jackson Motorplex this Saturday, September 27th.

Rapid Speedway Recap | 8/22/25

Literally was a fireball of a night at Rapid Speedway! ๐Ÿ™ Thank God for His protection, and thank God the safety equipment I had did its job exactly as designed. Huge thanks to K1 RaceGear, CarbonX, Lifeline Fire & Safety Systems USA, Simpson Race Products for keeping me safe.

Heat Race: 1st โžก๏ธ 3rd
Feature: 3rd โžก๏ธ 20th (DNF)

The night started off strong with a great pill draw that put the Boho Beauty Bar 23c on the pole for Heat #1. Track conditions were pretty dry, but thanks to Kent Franks, Miles Grein, and Eric Ricochet Schulz, the car was dialed in well enough to maintain position and qualify inside the top 12 of the Feature invert based on points average.

For the A-Feature, the Black Sheep Landscaping 23c started 3rd on the inside of row two. I timed the first green flag start really well and was sitting in 4th off of turn two, but a wreck at the back of the field brought out a complete restart. Unfortunately, my timing on the second start wasnโ€™t as good โ€” I got in the throttle a little too soon, had to back off, and when I mashed it again the motor stumbled. That dropped the RADesign Body Shop & Mechanics 23c back to 7th.

From there, the Eyekandy Design Studio 23c held steady in 7th for several laps. I went into a hard battle with Brandon Bosma who threw a move at me into turn one. I crossed back under him out of turn two and wasnโ€™t ready to give up the spot. He finally made it stick on lap 6, but I kept him in my sights. Each lap I could feel the car getting quicker, and on lap 9 I laid down my fastest lap of the night.

Then disaster struck on lap 10. Coming out of turn two, the L.L. Woodke Engines motor suddenly lost power. I stuck my arm out of the cockpit to signal I was slowing, and thankfully Lee Goos Jr. reacted quickly to avoid getting into me. As I coasted high into turn 3, all of a sudden a fireball erupted between my legs below the steering gear. Flames were coming off both of my legs. My first thought was, โ€œI need to get out NOW,โ€ but the car wasnโ€™t stopped yet and the field was still under yellow. I turned toward the infield, quickly released my belts, and reached for the steering wheel release.

When I pulled the wheel off, I inhaled what I thought was smoke โ€” but it was actually my Lifeline Fire & Safety Systems USA 360 fire suppression system doing its job. As I climbed out, I saw flames still on my legs, so instinct kicked in: Stop, Drop, and Roll. The Rapid Speedway safety team was on me immediately and helped make sure I was okay.

Thankfully, my K1 firesuit, CarbonX underwear, Lifeline system, Simpson race shoes, and Crow belts all worked perfectly. Because of them, I walked away completely unscathed. Every racerโ€™s worst fear is fire, and that night I lived it. I truly believe God and my dad, Larry Crees, were watching over me. Before the race, something even told me to reposition my belt quick-release strap so I could find it easier in an emergency โ€” and Iโ€™m glad I did.

๐Ÿ’ฅ A huge welcome to a new sponsor this weekend โ€” Recovery in Motion. Glad to have you on board with the 23c!

We are now seeking sponsorship for a new fire suit and updated safety equipment. If you or your business would like to partner with Ben Crees Racing, please reach out โ€” your support helps keep me safe and on the track.

Big thank you to all the fans, my supporters, and our sponsors who make this possible for the Kent Franks and Miles Grein co-owned sprint cars 23c and 90 (driven by Eric Ricochet Schulz) :

7/22/25 Rapid Speedway Recap:

Heat: Started 4th โžก๏ธ Finished 3rd
A-Feature: Started 4th โžก๏ธ Finished 16th (DNF)

First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize to the entire Ballenger Racing team for my mistake that ended the night for the 6B - Baylee Ballenger. I feel absolutely terrible. Iโ€™m incredibly thankful that we were both able to walk away from what was a frightening incident. God was definitely watching over us.

Heat Race:
Started outside of row two. Kent Franks had the car dialed in, and I was able to move up to 2nd and hold that position, which qualified us for the A-Feature redraw.

A-Feature:
The redraw had me starting outside row two again. Kent once again gave me a strong setup, and I was able to move into 2nd after the first lap. Unfortunately, the race was slowed by multiple cautions. After a lap 7 restart, I began experiencing engine stumbles, and the track was losing grip where Iโ€™d been running. After the lap 11 caution, I adjusted my corner entry and started running closer to the bottomโ€”too close, in fact.

On lap 14, my left front caught one of the TerraGator tires in turn 4. I lost steering and control of the car. As I tried to slow the damaged car, it turned down the front stretchโ€”right into Bayleeโ€™s path. She had nowhere to go. We made hard contact, and both of our nights were over.

Racing has a way of keeping you humble, and I definitely learned some tough lessons last night.

Takeaways:

If your car is damaged, safely stop as soon as possible.
Donโ€™t flirt with the bottom tiresโ€”they donโ€™t forgive mistakes.

Weโ€™ll regroup and try to get back out there soon. Thanks to everyone who supports usโ€”on to the next one.
