Men’s Golf Results❗️

All five Jacksonville State players finished in the top 20, leading the Gamecock men's golf team to a third-place finish at the LaTour Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

In their first event of the spring season, the Gamecocks picked up where they left off in the fall. They claimed their fourth-straight Top Five finish, thanks to a 30-under 834, the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in school history. They tied Southern Miss for third in the 12-team event held on the par-72, 7,170-yard LaTour Golf Club.

Junior Q**m Vidal Mora was JSU's top finisher in the 68-player field, tying for sixth with a total score of 207. He shot a final-round 73 to close the opening tournament of the spring five shots behind medalist Alex Clouse of Abilene Christian. ACU won the team event with a 44-under 820.

Junior Max Basler had JSU's lowest round of the day with a 3-under 69 that tied him for ninth in the field. He shot a 54-hole score of 208 (-8) that was highlighted by a stretch of five-straight birdies in Tuesday's final round.

Junior Jesus Montenegro turned in a bogey-free 70 on Tuesday, carding birdies on the third and 18th holes. His 2-under round capped a 6-under 210 for the tournament that tied him for 14th.

Senior Patricio Freundt-Thurne and junior Maximo Portais tied for 20th to round out the JSU lineup. Both players shot a 4-under 212 for the tournament, with Freundt-Thurne shooting 71 and Portais 73 on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks' next event will be March 9-10 at the Bash at the Beach Collegiate in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The event will be hosted by Appalachian State at The Surf Club.

Women’s Golf Results❗️

Claire Vermette tied for sixth and the Jacksonville State women's golf team finished ninth at the JU Amelia Island Collegiate on Tuesday.

Vermette finished the first event of the spring season with a 1-under 215, thanks to a final-round 70 on the par-72, 6,029-yard Amelia National Golf Club. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native climbed one spot up the leaderboard into sixth.

The score led the Gamecocks to a team score of 300 on Monday, capping a 54-hole score of 892. Florida Gulf Coast won the 15-team tournament with a 4-under 860, one shot ahead of second-place North Florida.

Vermette birdied three holes and made just one bogey in her final round, finishing just four shots behind co-medalists Hanna Kiefer of Stetson and Haley Yerxa of FGCU.

Junior Ana Perez Altuna had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, carding an even-par 72 and finishing in a tie for 25th. Her 54-hole score of 222 was capped by a round with 16 pars, one birdie and just one bogey.

Junior Valentina Curet tied for 29th with a 223 after shooting 77 in her final round, while senior Chloe Borders shot 85 to finish off a 236 and tie for 68th. Senior Pia Ohlenbusch tied for 72nd with a 241 that was finished off by a Tuesday 81.

The Gamecocks will return to action on March 1-3, when they travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament will be played on the Osprey Point Golf Course.
