Twelve weeks of programming, side by side. This is what “Progressive by Design” actually means. 👇

Swipe through — these are our real HYROX Training Club foundational sessions:

**Week 4** — 2:30 work / :30 rest, 15 rounds on 5 movements. Building base capacity. Learning the stations.

**Week 7** — 8 movements at :60/:25, with a 2-minute run after every round. Now we’re training transitions — the part of HYROX nobody practices and everybody loses time on.

**Week 9** — 10 movements, 3:15 work blocks. That’s race-length effort. Pros spend 3–4 minutes per station. Open athletes average 5–6. Week 9 is where you feel what that actually costs.

**Week 12** — tomorrow. 2:30 blocks with :45 recovery, 24 intervals, 3 rounds across 8 competition movements. More recovery than Week 9 — because now we want to see the work capacity we built show up as *intensity*.

1:15 became 2:30 became 3:15. Five movements became ten. And every session ends the same way: the mile.

None of this is random. Each week exists because of the week before it — and the people training through this build will feel the difference on August 29 when they hit the full sim.

There’s a difference between working out and training. This is the difference.

Progressive by Design. Who’s writing *your* workout?

DM us HYROX if you want to come train with us tomorrow — Saturday, 7:30AM. 👊

This conversation happened this morning before anyone walked in — it’s the one most gyms never have. Who actually writes YOUR workout? 👇

Who actually writes your workout? 👇

Not who coaches it. Who *writes* it.

At most franchise gyms, the honest answer is: a corporate office. Someone builds a template at headquarters, and it gets handed to your coach — who may have never met you, and definitely didn’t write it. Lately, a lot of it reads like it came straight out of an AI with a fitness vocabulary.

Your coach doesn’t design the program. They just deliver it.

Here’s how it works at Burn District:

Every HYROX session — I write it. Fifteen years of coaching, built week over week toward race season.

Every group fitness class — written by Coach Brandon, who was a strength and conditioning coach for the Jacksonville Jacksonville Jaguars Atlanta Falcons and Florida Gators Not “inspired by.” Trained there. He knows what programming looks like when careers depend on it.

Nothing in our programming came from a template. Every phase, every progression, every deload week exists because a coach in this building decided your next four weeks on purpose.

That’s why members here get stronger in year three and year four — the programming actually goes somewhere.

Ask whoever runs your gym: “Who writes the programming?” The answer tells you everything.

That question costs nothing — and you deserve the answer.

Do you know who writes your programming? Honest question — most people have never asked. 👇

15 years certified. Here’s what the exam couldn’t teach me.

Photos from Burn District Fitness's post 08/05/2026

15 years ago this month, I passed my first personal training exam and thought I knew everything.

I didn’t.

This August marks 15 years since I earned my first nationally accredited certification — AFAA, now part of NASM.

Fifteen years later, here’s what I actually know:

Passing an exam isn’t what makes a great coach.

But it’s where professional responsibility begins.

Great coaching takes years.

Years of studying.

Years of working with real people and real bodies.

Years of getting things wrong, learning, adjusting, and sharpening your craft.

It’s why every coach on our floor at Burn District Fitness holds a nationally accredited certification.

Not because Florida requires it.

It doesn’t.

Because the people who trust us with their health deserve that standard.

Your joints matter.

Your recovery matters.

Your goals matter.

And you deserve more than someone pulling workouts off Instagram and making you sweat for an hour.

You deserve a coach who understands why you’re doing what you’re doing — and where it’s taking you.

And here’s the part that humbled me all over again:

Five years ago, Melissa and I bought the gym.

I figured 10 years of coaching experience would be enough to know how to run one.

I was absolutely wrong.

Owning a gym is a completely different craft — and it handed me a brand-new pile of things to get wrong, learn, and adjust.

After 15 years, I know less than I thought I knew when I started.

But I understand coaching at a depth I couldn’t have imagined then.

And I’m still learning.

What’s the moment in your line of work when you realized how much you didn’t know? 👇

Photos from Burn District Fitness's post 08/04/2026

You’ve started over so many times you’re embarrassed to start again. 👇

That’s the real reason most people over 40 aren’t in a gym. Not laziness. Not time.

It’s the memory of every January that didn’t survive March. The gym bag still in the trunk. The app you paid for and stopped opening. Starting again means admitting all the other starts didn’t stick — and that stings more than staying on the couch.

Here’s the move away from that:

The problem was never you. It’s that every restart asked you to be your own coach — pick the program, set the pace, hold yourself accountable, all alone. That system fails almost everyone. You just kept blaming the only person in the room.

This time, don’t start alone. That’s literally what Strong Start is:

✅ Complimentary intro consultation — a conversation, not a sales pitch
✅ InBody Scan — your real starting point
✅ 3 private 1-on-1 sessions with a nationally certified coach
✅ A personalized plan built around your life
✅ A clear next step when you finish

**$225 total** ($75/session) · 4–6 weeks · No contract.

You’ve never failed with a coach in your corner. You’ve only failed without one.

DM us TRAIN. The restart stops being scary when someone starts with you. 👊

The worst part of HYROX isn’t the race. It’s the year before you enter one. 👇

You’ve watched the videos. You follow the athletes. You’ve thought about it at least a dozen times.

And every time, the same wall: *”I’m not ready. I’d embarrass myself. Everyone there will know what they’re doing except me.”*

So another season passes. The race happens without you. Again.

Here’s the move away from that wall:

**HYROX Community Open House · Saturday, August 15 · 7:30AM**

No race. No clock. No one watching your time.

Walk the stations. Push a sled with a coach standing next to you. Ask the questions you’ve been saving up. See exactly what this training looks like before you commit to anything.

Complimentary. No experience needed. Come alone or bring a friend — either way, you won’t be the only first-timer in the room. That’s the point of the day.

Twelve days from now, the wall gets smaller. 🧱

DM us HYROX and we’ll save your spot for the 15th. 👊

A coach rolled his eyes at me once.

A friend brought me to a CrossFit gym I’d never been to. I asked the coach to walk me through one of the movements.

What I got back was frustration… and an eye roll.

You’re a coach. Someone just asked you to coach them.

That isn’t an interruption of the job.

That is the job.

I don’t remember much about the movement.

I remember how it felt to ask for help and be treated like an inconvenience.

I’ve never forgotten it.

Most people will never tell you when something is wrong.

I was a coach, and I still walked out without saying a word.

The average person won’t complain. They won’t raise their hand. They’ll just come a little less… then not at all.

And you’ll probably never know why.

That’s why we don’t wait to be told.

We ask.

At the end of every month, every member gets one question from me:

Did you feel coached?

Not, “Did you get a workout?”

Did someone watch your movement?

Did someone help you improve?

Did someone explain why?

Did someone notice when you weren’t there?

Because it’s our job to know.

A coaching standard that nobody measures isn’t a standard—it’s a slogan.

The only way to know if we’re living up to it is to ask the people experiencing it, and to care more about the honest answer than protecting our ego.

Some months the feedback is great.

Some months it tells me something has slipped.

Good.

I’d rather read an uncomfortable email in August than lose someone quietly in October and never know what could have been fixed with one conversation.

That’s coaching.

Not just delivering workouts.

Paying attention to people.

Ron
