Our lovely doula Ashley with our strong mama of a client! ⬇️ 🤗
My mermaid douby and her absolutely incredible, almost supernatural mama… 🧜♀️✨
After a wild, precipitous birth a couple of years ago, we hoped and prayed for a more lucid experience this time around. We returned to familiar territory, surrounded by a team we trusted. We talked through the possibility of another very fast birth, prepared our minds as much as anyone possibly can, and then… we let birth unfold.
As we imagined, sister arrived almost as swiftly as her brother, but we could never have imagined the bonus points she’d earn for a backflip dismount straight into her provider’s hands… still completely enclosed in her amniotic sac.
No continuous monitoring.
No IV.
No cervical checks.
No unnecessary interruptions.
She walked into the hospital completely in tune with her body, knowing exactly what was happening. Minute by minute, she could feel her baby descending ) She moved those hips through surges, breathed with the intensity, never froze in the face of a birth that was unfolding at lightning speed.
The room remained peaceful, hormones kept rolling, There was no immediate cord clamping and her precious babe remained connected for a long time to her old placental home while being held in her mama’s arms. A much hoped for birth wish to be able to slow things down and honor the transition 🥹.
A physiological birth is possible in a hospital.
A mother can be fully listened to, supported, trusted, and left safely undisturbed.
Do not feel guilty for NOT using what they offer or recommend (don’t feel guilty for using what they do offer either.) Your birth isn’t the time to be a “good patient” ; what’s happening in your labor isn’t what’s happening in the birth next door. They are all different. Please know that choosing a hospital doesn’t change that. The hospital CAN be the place you desire to birth for any reason that feels right to you while still knowing that you don’t need anyone’s permission to make informed choices, ask questions, or decline any interventions you don’t want.
This is your birth mama.
