Marietta Bulls Defeats Mayport Cruisers On Back Of Clutch Display From Matt Lawson!

Matt Lawson drove in six runs on three hits to lead Marietta Bulls past Mayport Cruisers 15-2 on Wednesday. Lawson hit a grand slam to left field in the ninth inning, scoring four runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring one.

Marietta Bulls were the first to get on the board in the first when Reynaldo Otero singled, scoring two runs.

Marietta Bulls added one run in the second after Nate Schirmer singled down the right field line.

Marietta Bulls scored two runs in the top of the eighth on a home run to left field by Schirmer.

Marietta Bulls scored six runs on two hits in the top of the ninth inning. An error scored one run, Radiel Cruz induced Justin Thaggard to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Lawson hit a grand slam to left field.

Zack Flowers earned the win for Marietta Bulls. The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Carey stepped on the bump first for Mayport Cruisers. The starter surrendered 16 hits and 13 runs (12 earned) over eight innings, striking out four and walking seven. Otero, Schirmer, and Chris Haynes each came on in relief for Marietta Bulls and shutdown Mayport Cruisers.

Marietta Bulls amassed 17 hits in the game. Otero and Lawson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Marietta Bulls while hitting back-to-back. Schirmer collected two hits for Marietta Bulls in three at bats. Dave Mitchum led Marietta Bulls with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Otero stole three bases. Marietta Bulls stole seven bases in the game. Marietta Bulls turned one double play in the game.

Kelby Staley, Gavin Sanford, Magagnos, and Bogawitch each collected one hit for Mayport Cruisers. Bogawitch and Carey each drove in one run for Mayport Cruisers.

Next up for Marietta Bulls is a game against Bad News Bears on Wednesday.
