Caught about 6 good keepers from this one ledge within about 45 minutes!!!

When the fish get lethargic and their metabolism slows down it's tough to beat a shaky head. A slow erratic fall and the ability to leave it it their face with the tail standing up and wiggling make this a great technique to save a slow day!

Bass Whoopin' Fishing

Finally got a chance to go do some fishing with my right hand man, Tyler Shofner at Cedar Creek Lake and did pretty good for August. Caught some good fish including two 4 pounders and this 6.5 lb. big head that fell for a 1/2 ounce Slong's spinnerbait on the first cast! Big thanks to Sun Tropic Outdoors and Slongs Fishing Lures!

Best spinnerbaits out there! I've been using them for several years! Their blue glimmer is by far my favorite color.

Lake Chickamauga brought a lot of challenges for us to overcome this past week at the Air National Guard Bass Tournament. A ton of rain, crazy wind, mechanical issues and we got the truck and trailer stuck twice. Thanks to our great friends it was still an incredible trip! Caught some good fish and had a great time! We only missed the cut by about a pound, but did have some friends make a strong showing. Congrats to Curtis Michael Persinger and Scott Carrier for landing 2nd place, Travis Howard for 11th and Johnny Cantu and Brian Story for getting 14th! Way to represent Kentucky! To Jerry Zollman Jr, Papa z, Blake Glockner and the rest of our Kentucky friends, I guess we'll have to get our revenge next year! Ready to get back to Lake Cumberland!

Not quite the Chickamauga giants we're after, but you gotta start somewhere. We did manage to snag a nice plastic alligator though!

Current Lake Level - 727 Ft.
Current Water Temp - 64 deg. F

First and foremost, BE CAREFUL on the lake! There is a ton of debris out there. It's getting better, but there are a lot of partially submerged logs and other things that could ruin your day in a hurry. On the good side of things, even with the fluctuating temperatures and water level, the fishing is still pretty good.

Largemouth - The recent big rains really pushed the largemouth deep into the cover. We did best fishing relatively close to the spawning areas. The majority of the fish are definitely on there way back out to bigger water from the shallow flats, but haven't gone too far yet. Pitching, skipping and flipping into the heavy cover was by far the biggest player. Very precise casting was vital to getting the bites. Those fish just weren't willing to go far to chase a bait this weekend.

Smallmouth - The smallies were numerous, but hard to catch. They would bite, but it was the softest I've ever had them hit. Fishing very slow was key. You would just feel weight and see your line move off. We also missed several fish. Adding scent to the lures helped a lot and I was able to capitalize on many more bites. The best concentrations of smallmouth was definitely close to the mouths of the creeks on the secondary points and little pockets.

Most productive lures - By far the best baits were the Missile Bait D-Bomb and Big Bite Baits Yo Momma in green pumpkin. Adding a tiny bit of Chartreuse spike it and some Pro-cure craw gel helped tremendously! it really got the fish to hold on long enough to get a hook in them. We only caught 1 fish on any kind of a reaction bait this week. I expect that to change in the coming weeks as the water temp and levels stabilize and more fish recover from the spawn.

I will be at Chickamauga for the next couple of weeks for the Air National Guard Bass Tournament hanging out and catching fish with my military buddies, so I won't be putting out a report for a little while. Make sure you check back for some instructional videos and pictures of us cutting up!

Be sure to hit up Sun Tropic Outdoors and Lake country outdoors for the latest fishing info and gear.

Hope This report helps you put a whoopin' on em' !!!

See what got the job done on the massive Kentucky reservoir.

Current Lake Level - 715 Ft.
Current Water Temp - 57 deg. F

Had a couple of great things happen this weekend. First of all, it was really incredible to see all of the pros from the FLW on Lake Cumberland! It's great to see Cumberland getting the national recognition that it deserves. I would love to see a tournament at that level go out of a ramp closer to the dam so they had more time to explore the big creeks down there. I really think it would blow up the weights, but those guys killed it none the less. Second of all, we were able to stay on good fish and even found some smallies, all without impeding any of the tournament fisherman and the weather made everything that much better. I even took some time to attend the weigh in and it was awesome!

Largemouth - The recent warm weather has really started pushing the largies onto the spawning flats in the backs of the creeks and some are already spawning. There are several bucks up really shallow guarding beds. Many more are on there way up shallow in their typical waves and are slightly easier to catch. With the high bright skies and lack of wind, I spent much of my time fishing slower with soft plastics, but was able to pick up the pace whenever the wind would help me out. The rise in water temp back in the creeks has either woken up the crawfish or started their spawning rituals because the bass are really demolishing craw style baits like crazy. probably 8-1 over other soft plastics. Lipless cranks and big, slow-rolled swimbaits were also big players, especially when the wind picked up.

Smallmouth - The water temps are considerably cooler on the main lake and the smallies are in some phase of their spawn as well. I didn't catch enough to determine exactly which phase, but they are holding on the tapering gravel banks and points near the mouths of creeks. A little chunk rock or other cover mixed in definitely helps. They seemed to hit everything I threw as long as it was a suspending jerkbait in ayu flash. If it had gotten cloudy, I think i could've done just as well or better with a pro blue or white color.

Most productive lures - D&L jig in cumberland craw with a green pumpkin trailer, Net Bait paca craw in green pumpkin or Alabama craw, 56 custom color lures lipless crank in red craw, 56 custom color lures suspending jerkbait in ayu flash and Big bite baits BB kicker shad in green gizzard shad.

56 custom color lures still brought the heat this week and are now available at Sun Tropic Outdoors and Lake country outdoors along with tons of other great gear.
Hope This report helps you put a whoopin' on em' !!!

Hit up Cedar Creek Lake yesterday for a change of pace. That's an incredible place! Thanks for the gear Sun Tropic Outdoors!

I apologize for not posting more reports recently, but I honestly hadn't caught enough fish to post one and I refuse to give out false information. I do have good news this week though. We finally put the puzzle together. We caught good fish this past week and a lot of them. Since I was having trouble getting anything solid going for a while, I decided to give the smallies a break and focus on strictly largemouth because they are generally a little easier to pattern. Therefore I don't have any specific info on the smallmouth this week.

Largemouth Bass - There has been a serious movement way back in the creeks into the shallows towards the spawning flats. The gizzard shad are up there around the grass that was growing on the bank that is now under water since they've been bringing the lake level up and the bass are in hot pursuit and feeding up for the spawn. There is some warmer and dirtier water up shallow and the fish seem to prefer it right now. I caught plenty of fish in clear water also, but there seems to be more, and bigger fish in the muddier water. Not all of the creeks are on the same schedule, so you may have to go back further in some than others. There are still more waves of fish headed there so some are still further out in the creeks, but the best one were definitely shallow. Big fish in big numbers!

Slow rolling a lipless crank or big swim bait produced almost all of our fish however, weather could call for other lures to produce in the near future. The 56 Custom Color Lures lipless crank was the best producer. probably 4-1 over the redeye shad or the booyah. It seems to come through the cover a little better and gave me more chances for a strike. Red craw was better in the dirty water. It produced four fish over 5 Pounds and one over 6. Threadfin shad worked better in the clear water and produced one 5 pounder and several fat 3+ pounders. Slowly working a 5" Big Bite Baits BBkicker picked up some good fish when the fishing slowed down and did produce one 5 pounder.

A BIG thank you to 56 custom color lures! It really made a difference this week!
Check out Lake Country Outdoors and Sun Tropic Outdoors for the best gear around!

A local fisherman brought this GIANT Rainbow Trout by the store today to be weighed on certified scales. The trout weighing in at 14lbs 3oz was caught in the Cumberland River just below the dam! This was only 3 ounces short of the state record caught back in 1972 of 14lbs 6oz! #trophytrout

If I had studied this hard when I was in school, I'd probably be a doctor by now. Gotta study up for the summer patterns.
