Met with the ladies from Marigold Speech & Co.! We had a wonderful time brainstorming ways to better serve our community.

They’re even going to be coming to our next staff meeting!

Janesville is such a great place to live where small businesses can come together to help another small business!

And to think, this all came from networking at a BA5 meeting with Forward Janesville Inc!

Lessons begin the week of 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟭, and many of our classes are already FULL! We do still have openings available, so now is the time to take a look at the schedule and find the right fit for your swimmer.

We’re nearing the end of registration for our Fall Quarter! Lessons begin the week of September 21, which is only a week and a half away.

Many classes are already full, but we still have some openings available. It’s definitely worth taking a look at the schedule to see what might work for your family.

I hear it all the time.

“My child is a great swimmer!”

Then I find out they mean their child swims with floaties on.

Or they can doggy paddle, but they are afraid to put their face in the water.

Or their hips sink when they try to roll, float or change direction.

These skills may be a start, but they do not mean a child can safely and confidently swim.

A capable swimmer can move through the water horizontally, manage their breathing, change direction, roll onto their back to rest and reach a safe exit.

If your child cannot do those things yet, they still need support in the water. That means it is time to begin swimming lessons or continue lessons until those skills are truly mastered.

Swimming is more than staying above the water. It is knowing what to do once you are in it.

Your child doesn’t need to be fearless before starting swim lessons. Helping them love the water is our job. 💙

Some of our biggest victories look small from the outside:

A nervous child putting their face in the water for the first time.

A swimmer learning to float instead of panic.

A child who needs a little extra patience finally trusting their instructor.

A confident swimmer improving their technique and discovering just how much they can do.

Our Fall Quarter begins September 21, and now is the time to find a class that fits your family’s schedule. We offer lessons for toddlers through age 12, along with private and adaptive lessons.

In honor of Labor Day, I want to recognize the incredible work our swim instructors do every week.

It is hard to put into words all the challenges they meet with patience, creativity and compassion. They are instructors, educators, entertainers, comforters, cheerleaders and sometimes even counselors.

Within one class, an instructor may work with families who have very different parenting styles and expectations. One parent may want their child pushed beyond their comfort zone, while another prefers a slower, calmer approach. Our instructors must understand each swimmer, respect each family and find a way to help every child progress.

With our adaptive swimmers, instructors often go through trial and error to discover how each child learns best. They figure out what motivates them, which teaching strategies work, how far they can safely challenge them and which drills will help them succeed, all while building trust.

I often remind instructors that a private lesson may be the only 30 minutes that week when a child receives the full, uninterrupted attention of an adult. That consistency and one on one connection can create a bond that means more than we may ever realize.

Of course, working with kids also keeps everyone humble! Children will point out every interesting thing they notice about your body, including the acne you would rather not discuss. They may also pinch, slap, scratch or grab your hair. I am still growing back a chunk of hair that was pulled out, and it finally fits into my ponytail again!

Despite it all, our instructors keep showing up because they see the value in what they do. They witness the moment a swimmer finally masters a skill and see the excitement and pride on that child’s face.

Most importantly, they know they are teaching skills that can save lives. They are making a real difference for children and families, and that makes every challenging moment worth it.

I spent the last two weeks preparing our instructors for some big emotions. With school starting and routines changing, the littles are usually exhausted!

But somehow, this was our best start to the school year EVER! We had so many smooth transitions, happy swimmers, and smiles for days!
