Saturday September 26th was the annual Red / Ron shoot at USC in Jefferson City, MO. This shoot honors two guys: Red Horton and Ron Meyer. They were both very well respected and tremendous advocates for shooting sports, camaraderie, and good sportsmanship.
New for this year is we have another gentleman to honor - Chuck Campbell. Chuck passed this year unfortunately but know he was truly one-of-a-kind. Chuck was a friendly face and didn’t know a stranger anywhere he went. Chuck shot about any game you could shoot with a shotgun and was quick to offer advice and cheers for fellow shooters.
The twist to this shoot is you shoot a round of 25 American s***t, 25 wobble s***t, and 50 trap birds. While shooting a single bird, you can actually take two shots and if it’s visible, you get a 1/2 point if you hit a chip. It’s a great way to make up ground if you drop a bird and it’s great practice as it makes you really stay in the gun
The overall prize for this competition is a traveling trophy. It was originally a pocket watch (can be used to hypnotize a shooter to cure the dreaded “chicken finger”) but this year we have added a horse shoe that Chuck used in his farrier business. The overall winner gets these valued items for the year and then has to compete for them at the next shoot.
We had a good turnout and some nice weather - congratulations to John Arnold for 1st, Ron Arnold for 2nd, and Connor Hess for 3rd.
Thanks to everyone that attended and helped throw, score, fill houses, etc. Already looking forward to next year!
