Happy ! Today is all about celebrating one of the absolute kewlest, smartest, and most fascinating creatures in the entire ocean. Cephalopods are truly in a league of their own. Between having three hearts, blue copper based blood, and two thirds of their neurons living right in their arms meaning each te****le can basically think and act on its own they feel like something straight out of sci-fi. Add in their ability to instantly match the color and texture of a reef, or squeeze their bone free bodies through any gap larger than their beak, and it’s impossible not to be in complete awe of them.

Whether you’re a diver who loves scanning the rocky crevices for a hidden eye peaking back at you, behind beautiful shells, or just someone who appreciates how wild nature can get, take a moment to appreciate our favorite eight legged ocean geniuses today. The dive club recently took on a hunt for ancient treasures buried in the seabed. Finding fossilized shark teeth on the West Coast takes patience, but sifting through the sand paid off when we locked eyes on fossilized teeth from prehistoric predators that roamed these waters millions of years ago. There’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of pulling a piece of ocean history directly off the seafloor. Big thanks to everyone who joined us on this epic adventure! When nature changes the plan, we change the playbook!

This past Saturday, we set out for the Wreck Trek hoping to catch the tail end of the Goliath Grouper aggregation. It looks like our big friends started heading back to their home sites a little earlier than usual this year!

After a brief conversation with Captain Mike, we decided to "pivot" taking our group over to Shark Canyon and Juno Ledge, a drift diving treat that local divers don't always get to drop on!

And man, did those sites deliver:

A massive Loggerhead turtle greeted us the second we started to descend.

Sharks galore cruising the ledge, including one super curious Nurse Shark that wanted to check everybody out.

Two Goliaths One in the sand, while the other was happily chillin' under a ledge.

Conditions, marine life movements, and visibility shift constantly. That’s why diving with us goes beyond just having a great time onboard we know the local reefs inside and out, and we aren't afraid to adjust the plan on the fly to make sure you get the absolute best underwater experience every single drop.

Did you know that fluid in the lungs during a dive can actually come from inside the body, rather than swallowed water?

This condition is called Immersion Pulmonary Edema (IPE), and spreading awareness about it isn't about scaring anyone away from the water, it's about keeping our swimming, snorkeling, and diving community safe, informed, and prepared.

Here is what every water enthusiast should know:

What is IPE?

IPE happens when fluid leaks from the bloodstream directly into the lungs' air sacs (alveoli) during immersion, disrupting normal breathing. Unlike typical drowning, this fluid originates internally due to blood shifting from the extremities to the core, which increases pressure in the lungs.

Key Signs to Watch For:

Rapid onset of extreme shortness of breath

Persistent coughing or respiratory distress

Pink, blood-tinged, or frothy sputum

Common Risk Factors:

Age 50+ or underlying high blood pressure

Taking NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) before diving

Physical exertion before or during the swim/dive

Cold water exposure or tight-fitting gear/wetsuits

Heavy breathing resistance or potential overhydration

The Golden Rule:

Because IPE can mimic other diving injuries, never brush it off. If you or your buddy experience sudden shortness of breath or a bad cough in the water, exit safely and seek medical evaluation immediately even if you feel better once you're back on dry land.
