At the 2023 IEA National Finals, Lily Martens won the Junior Varsity Novice Equitation Over Fences after reading Judging WTF? by Julie Winkel and Tricia Booker the night before and riding in a clinic with Julie weeks before.

This week, our riders have the opportunity to take that learning a step further and work directly with Julie Winkel at Thomas School. Julie has spent decades judging, training and developing riders at the highest levels of our sport, and understanding what the judge is looking for can make an enormous difference in the show ring.

Sessions available for riders of all levels.
Auditing and participation are especially encouraged for our IEA riders.

Congratulations Lily Martens on the adoption of Millard’s Legacy, “Miller,” from the Secretariat Center.

Miller continues something that has become especially meaningful to us — giving Thoroughbreds the opportunity to begin a new chapter and find a second career after racing.

Over the past year, we have also welcomed Bob Marco, “Bob,” and Z Rockstar, “Charlie,” from High Hoof Sales. Both have become wonderful members of our program and have shown just how versatile, intelligent, willing, and rewarding Thoroughbreds can be.

Charlie and Bob have already given our riders so much — helping build confidence, teaching new skills, and proving that a horse’s racing career can simply be the beginning of an entirely new story.

We are incredibly proud to continue supporting the retraining and rehoming of Thoroughbreds and to give horses like Miller the time, training, and opportunity to discover what comes next.

Welcome to Thomas School, Miller. We can’t wait to see where your second career takes you.

We are so incredibly proud of our riders and horses for a long, fun, and successful week of showing! Everyone worked hard, gave it their all, supported one another, and made us proud both in and out of the ring. Congratulations to all of our riders on a fantastic week! 🏆👏
