This show helps the Underprivileged people of Guyana,Suriname and Trinidad with wheelchairs,walkers,pampers, Hampers, commode,shower chairs and medical supplies. Please get your tickets early.

Successful first day at the Shiv Kala Dance Academy

Today we begin the dance season at the Shiv Kala Dance Academy with a Ghungaroo Ceremony...In a Ghungaroo Ceremony, a teacher gives a students a pair of Ghungaroo that is blessed in front of the Lord of Dance, Nataraja. Ghungroos are small metal bells, mostly made of brass, strung together to form a musical anklet, worn by the dancers. The sound produced by the ghungroos also keeps the dancer in tune to the music and stay in rhythm by providing a template of sorts.

Getting the studio ready for our opening this friday.......we are excited to resume dancing....
Hello everyone...hope everyone is having a great summer...now that cases of covid 19 has reduce significantly for the state of nj, it is time to resume dance classes...Classes will start back on August 9 at 1 to 3pm....we will be asking all students to start wearing black leggings and red or yellow t-shirts to dance class...going forward this will be the requirements for class...also all hair tied up in a ponytail, bun or braided....I'm excited to resume classes and can't wait to see everyone
The safety guidelines are as followed.
* Checking temperatures for each student prior to entry.
* Must wear a mask or face covering. Masks are required in order to enter the studio.
* Sanitizing and sterilizing areas will be set up.
* maintain social distancing at all times.

It is an honor to perform today for the Mayor of Jersey City Mr. Steve Fulop...I'm proud of my Caribbean culture and excited that the Shiv Kala Dance Academy was given this opportunity along side other cultural dance groups from different parts of the world to show their talent....diversity is essential in today's society because it fosters growing acceptance by bringing people together from various backgrounds to build culture and community which promotes mutual understanding and tolerance in becoming a world citizen....

Happy 3rd anniversary to the Shiv Kala Dance Academy...I cannot believe we are 3 years in and have perform in over 50 shows including putting on our own production "Nadan karunai"...I feel so proud today...
