Have you experienced guilt for leaving a position or even thinking about leaving a position? đ
Itâs time to kick that narrative to the curb. I think weâve all experienced waves and levels of entitlement when teachers chuckle at how long certain teachers âlastedâ at their school.
It becoming more common for people to find fault in sayings like âhustlers donât sleepâ âIâll sleep when Iâm deadâ , so why do we feel empowered to shame people who need to make a change? Or quantify someoneâs worth through the number of year they did something for?
Read between the lines here. This doesnât just have to be about the classroom, this could be about any major change in your life right now, Teach.

Thank you, Meredith Newlin â¤ď¸ your support is so appreciated. This program is what I wish I had when I was in the classroom. Itâs taken me years to develop strategies to help teachers begin building sustainable relationships with their careers in education so they can stay in the field for the long run. I canât wait to get started coaching a cohort of teachers ready to start prioritizing their needs in order to better help their students â¤ď¸
TIME Waiting List
Hi, I'm Elise! I'm a high school educator turned coach helping teachers recharge from burn out and build sustainable careers in education.Â

Yep, I said it!
Somewhere along the way itâs drilled into us early in our teaching career that this job is about everything except us. We are just mere servants doing this work.
And it actually is an unspoken dirty secret that calling teaching a job rather than something like a calling or your lifeâs work makes you seem less invested.
At some point teachers learn, (if theyâre able to stay around and beat burn out) that this job HAS to include your needs in order for you to succeed.
đĽYou can feel called to this job and still exhibit boundaries, teach!
If you make it all about a calling to serve or all about the kids and completely let it take away from your own needs youâll be left feeling:
âunappreciated
âoverworked
âburned out
âand using whatever energy and resources you got to âkeep the dreamâ going so to speak.
đThat is exactly what happened to me.
đTeaching is a job. A heartfelt, emotional, exciting, full of potential and rewarding job.
Continue to show up and do your best, give what you got, but donât keep living it once the day is done.
â¤ď¸we need you to keep being YOU, teach.
đWhatâs ONE way you can start to separate yourself from you job teach and start to meet your needs more often?

đYouâre having âone of those daysâ, teach...
I get it... weâve all been there: second guessing and questioning if youâre on the right path, in the right career, in the right school...
đ¤Śââď¸Feeling misunderstood, sensing push back, being undermined is NEVER enjoyable..
Whether itâs just a one off thing or something that is consistently occurring (not cool, weâll talk some more later about that) this list of affirmations is for you to repeat and remind yourself of your worth.
âď¸I AM FINANCIALLY WORTHYâ quit saying yes to extra tasks that donât fuel your finances. Teachers too often work for free and it leaves us feeling less than appreciated. Donât consistently fill up time. Just because itâs âfreeâ time doesnât make it less valuable... savor it.
âď¸I AM VALUABLE âyes you are! Even if kids arenât engaging in zoom, even if a parent sent a nasty email, even if your admin got short with you, you are the most important adult in that school building and they need you more than you need them. Remember that â¤ď¸
âď¸I DESERVE TO BE PASSIONATE ABOUT MY JOBâ if more often than not your dreading what you do, it may be time to look elsewhere OR may be time to start redefining your role at your current school and leading/teaching the way you want! Live the life you want not by the way some cookie cutter system told you how! Sometimes itâs better to act for forgiveness rather than permission, teach!
âď¸I AM A PROFESSIONAL â people donât fully understand what teachers do but itâs not your job to teach them! You have degrees teach! Most likely multiple! Youâre not a babysitter! You have a skill set unlike any other and you are one professional cookie ((in a power suit!) đŞ đ§Ľ cookie in a suit! So cute.. ok got sidetracked there...)
âď¸I AM NOT INDEBTED TO MY SCHOOL â Donât let admin, students, parents or other teachers guilt you to feeling like you owe more than what youâre willing. Know your limits and stick to them. Going over them will only hurt you more in the long run.
đWhich affirmation is resonating with you most today teach? Is there another you you tell yourself often when you need a pep talk? Share below!

đHermit crabs change homes when they grow.
The act is a positive one for not only the crab, moving on from his old home to his new, but for other crabs smaller than him who will now find his old home to be spacious and fitting.
The bigger hermit crab doesnât take on the responsibility of housing both him and his smaller friends.
He does whatâs good for him and in the process helps out another along the way.
Be the hermit crab, teach.
Your shell does not fit the burden of everyone in your life. Your shell only fits the burden that YOU were meant to bear.
You may wish your shell could carry more, to further please those around you. But thatâs not your responsibility or lesson to teach. Others need to learn to carry their own shells and in the process support those around them, but not carry.
đĽWhatâs ONE responsibility that you are carrying that you can put down today, teach? What is not fitting on your shell or needs to be addressed to lift the load? Let me know below! đ

Period.
I love working in education. I love teaching.
đHowever, nothing I love is worth my health.
đIf your health is being compromised...
đIf youâre crying everyday after school...
đIf youâre getting sick and feeling crappy...
đIf youâre not yourself...
Donât tell yourself that YOUâRE the problem... thatâs what toxic positivity and toxic teaching culture wants you to think.
đYOU belong here, teach!
There is room for all personality types in this career.
What IS the problem is that you need to learn correct mindset shifts and skills to help you create a happy, healthy, sustainable career.
đĽThatâs where TIME comes in: an 8-week group coaching program for the overwhelmed, exhausted educator who struggles to take care of their own needs first.
đĽTIME teaches you tools & self care practices to build a successful and authentic teaching career allowing you to feel grounded, confident, and reenergized during the school year, pandemic or not!
Sound good? Let me know down below teach đââď¸
I canât wait for you to see how you and teaching are meant to be. You belong here đ

đHave you seen these zoom classroom pranks, teach?!
Maybe oneâs happened to you?
đSome are hilarious, other give me anxiety...
But seriously, donât hand over host privileges to your students ...they got something planned when theyâre asking for them đ
Ya only have to be 1 step ahead, for pranks or teaching the rule stands the sameâ¤ď¸
So let this be a reminder to not go overboard with the planning this weekend teach!
đŚśRemember: only one step ahead!
Hope this meme makes you laugh
Happy Friday and donât share the zoom host privileges! đ

âIf you try to be perfect, youâre doing it wrong, teach!
đ¤ŚAre you that teacher who tries to revamp every lesson? Make everything super action packed with 20 stations, arts and crafts, and results in 3 trips to Michaels to make it happen?
đYour idea of âperfectâ is getting in the way of what really matters.
đAnd itâs preventing you from having an amazing relationship with yourself, your career, and your kids.
đIf you can teach the same concept with a free worksheet you found online DO IT! âFreeâ and âworksheetâ doesnât always mean bad... unfortunately celebrating anything other than this has become the norm in teaching.
đKeep your lessons simple, keep your expectations reasonable not lofty, and give your students opportunities to create rather than you doing it for them.
â¤ď¸Most importantly stay true to what you can handle when you plan and realistic with your time frames.
đĽBeing an okay teacher in your mind probably means youâre being a GREAT teacher to your students.đĽ
đŚśListen, you only need to be one step ahead to be considered the expert in the room. One step. Thatâs it.
âĄď¸Quit the over planning
âĄď¸Quit reinventing the wheel
âĄď¸Life is a struggle especially now. Keep it simple, teach!

đąThis quote has been saved on my phone for almost 6 years...
đWhen I was teaching and August rolled around, I would find myself disassociating and suppressing my anxiety about heading back to school.
đI would do this by scrolling through social media and YouTube trying to distract myself from what was really plaguing me: could I really do another year?
đ¤Śââď¸Social media is like the popular kid.. It makes you feel cool and recognized when youâre hanging out, but then leaves you questioning your decisions immediately after.
đScrolling, as it still does, left me feeling 10x worse when the evening would hit and I didnât do anything to better support or work on myself.
đSomething I would do however was save quotes that struck a cord with me by screen shotting them (pre save feature đ) these quotes spoke to me, made me feel less alone, made my anxiety and pain be seen, understood, normalized.
đHonestly, looking back, I think I was looking for answers around my uncertainty and sense of feeling lost. Still am till this day... and sometimes it comes in a quote.
đSo teach, if youâre on here scrolling through looking for solace... looking to be seen, your stress, fear, anger, emotional drain... I see you...Iâm regifting this quote to you from me 6 years ago, from me today.
â¤ď¸Put DOWN whatâs heavy, accept and focus on what you can control, learn that simple is better, and that itâs ok sometimes to just live 1 day at a time in order to make it through.
Much love to you this Monday â¤ď¸

âď¸You see those smaller two circles/ovals? THOSE are your ONLY responsibility in life!
đąIf you find yourself overwhelmed and over concerned, most likely your giving too much focus to things OUTSIDE your control/ influence and giving things power that you have no say in.
đĄNothing you do, think or say can change it and here you are dancing around, screaming at the top of your lungs trying to make a difference.
But hereâs what you can do to give yourself perspective:
1ď¸âŁWrite down everything giving you issue right now on post it notes or index cards....The news, your partners lack of communication, the anxiety you wake up with everyday, your lack of getting to the gym, your district switching over from zoom to google meets, your kids attitude when you try taking to them, your lack of morning routine..
2ď¸âŁStart to organize them by what you CAN control and what you CANT.
(I know easier said than done ...DONT let other peopleâs opinions influence your decision making)
3ď¸âŁSome of those things that you might struggle where to put may fall under the INFLUENCE CIRCLE. You might not necessarily have the control but your actions towards ANOTHER can change the outcome for you and end up making life more manageable for you.
đItâs always helpful to be reminded of whatâs in your control and whatâs out of it...itâs easy to get lost in the sauce everyone and again.
Give it a shot for yourself teach... and if your interested in making this an SEL activity to do with your students let me know below! I can share some thoughts in my stories! đ
