The RGS Women's Intro to Wingshooting led by Bethany Ford is always a lot of fun. Women being taught by women how to shoot and hunt. And the culmination of the program is a hunt offered to all the graduates. What a hoot!

Final Results of Rolfe Beagle Club’s Predator Hunt

Johnsonburg, Pa.: Jim Pennington, Jr., President, announces the final results of Rolfe Beagle Club’s 10-day, Statewide Coyote and Crow Hunt offered from 9/3 thru 9/12. A record number of hunters registered for this fall 2026 hunt.

Hunters harvested 21 coyotes and eleven crows over the hunt.

Team Salter and Roys harvested five coyotes. The trio of Colby Nussbaum, Brady Nussbaum, and Reese Ehrensberger harvested seven coyotes over the timeframe. Reese also harvested two crows.

The largest coyote of the hunt was harvested by Team Salter and Roys, and was a male coyote that checked in at 47.0 #. This male coyote would have been a 50+ pounder come February.

The largest female coyote was harvested by Colby Nussbaum and weighed in at 34.4 #

Steve Krug won top prized for most crows harvested (9) and Reese Ehrensberger won the ghost coyote raffle.

Hunters are reminded that Rolfe Beagle Club’s Predator Hunt or Trap will take place over two weekends in February.

Busy Last Day at Rolfe’s Predator Hunt

Johnsonburg, Pa.: Despite the pouring rain, predator hunters steadily entered Rolfe’s parking lot to access the weigh station for the last day of the Coyote and Crow Hunt.

Bryan and Kohlson Uhl harvested a 21.4 # female coyote on Saturday morning near 12:30 am. The father/son duo was hunting private lands in Elk County. Kohlson was calling with a Hot Dog Howler diaphragm call interspersed with a little lip squeak. Bryan shoots a .223 r***e with thermal scope.

Colby Nussbaum harvested a male coyote weighing 35.2 # Saturday morning near 3:30 am. He was hunting on private lands in Elk County. Colby shoots a .243 r***e with a thermal scope. No calling at all for this coyote.

Brady Nussbaum harvested three coyotes while hunting with Colby. Two of them were harvested at the same time as Colby’s coyote. One male coyote weighed in at 30.0 #. The second male coyote weighed in at 28.2 #.
On Friday near 11:00 pm, Brady used an electronic call, and called in a male coyote weighing 37.0 #.

Steve Krug brought the last harvests to the weigh station with his four crows. Steve was hunting private lands in Elk County and harvested two crows on Friday and two crows on Saturday. Steve shoots a 12-gauge pump sh***un for crows.

Dellaquella Family at Rolfe’s Hunt

Johnsonburg, Pa.: John and Isaac Dellaquella, a well-known father/son predator hunting duo, brought a harvest to the Rolfe weigh station on Friday. Isaac was doing the calling on their second stand of Thursday evening; and John was able to harvest a 30.0 # male coyote near 8:30 pm from private lands in Elk County.

Isaac started with a pup call and then switched over to fawn in distress to entice the coyote. John shoots a .243 r***e with a thermal scope and uses a Primos electronic call.

Uhl Family at Rolfe’s Hunt

Johnsonburg, Pa.: Kohlson Uhl hopped out of the truck to show me the coyote he and his Dad had shot the evening before. Kohlson hunts with his Dad whenever he gets the chance.

Bryan and Kohlson were hunting private lands in Potter County on Wednesday evening. On their second stand of the evening near 11:30 pm, a 22.4 # male coyote came to the gun. Kohlson exclaimed, “We were using the diaphragm call Randy Anderson Hot Dog Howler again and the ‘yote came right in. Change it up a little bit, and get away from the electronic calls that everybody else uses and you can get those coyotes to show,” said Kohlson. Sounds like he has the experience to back up those words.

Bryan Uhl shoots a .223 with a thermal scope. The family that hunts together, stays together.

Karl E. Becker, age 73 of Ridgway, PA, died Sunday, September 6, 2026 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Born on July 27, 1953 in Oil City, PA, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Donna A. (Marvin) Becker, Jr.

Karl was a veteran of the United States Airforce having served during the Vietnam War.

On December 6, 1980 he married his wife of 38 years, Linda R. (Beers) Becker. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2018.

Karl retired from Windstream/Alltel as a telecommunications technician after many years of service.

He was a member of the Rolfe Beagle Club where he served as treasurer. He had been a member of the Ridgway Volunteer Fire Departments Capital City Hose Company, the Ridgway American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5587, and the Ridgway Eagles Aerie 469. Karl also enjoyed woodworking, and collecting Zippo lighters.

He is survived by his children; Karl A. Becker of Ridgway, PA, John Beers and his wife Lori of Owego, NY, Robin Pennington and her husband Jim of Ridgway, PA, and Mike Beers of Athens, PA, five grandchildren; Dylan, Logan, Josh, Kalene, and Cheyenne, six great grandchildren, and one sister, Darlene Sampsell.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Rhonda Becker King.

There will be no public visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 11 AM until 2 PM at the Ridgway American Legion.

Look at this! For years the arrowwood viburnum on the farm has been a poor producer because the viburnum leaf-eating beetles decimate the shrub most years. This year the beetles just did not materialize and the arrowwood viburnums are producing like crazy all over the farm!
This is so needed for wildlife after the loss of apples, crabapples, haws, and blueberries. Nice to see some shrubs producing something here in WMU2F.

I have always wanted to find rattlesnake plantain here in WMU2F. My friend excitedly told me about an entire patch up in the woods behind a nearby home. Off we both went to take photos of the plantain. How disappointed we both were when the approximately 20+ plants she had found the week before had been decimated by the deer - only two plants were left and the deer had eaten all the flowering parts off the plant and left just the rosette leaves. But, I'm going to share these anyhow as rattlesnake plantain is just not common - well, at least for me. See less

Nussbaum and Ehrensberger Successful at Rolfe’s Hunt

Johnsonburg, Pa.: Colby Nussbaum and Reese Ehrensberger from Elk County hunted hard over Labor Day Weekend, “The sun was coming up each morning when we finished our stands.” Brady Nussbaum also hunted with Colby and Reese, and formed the coyote and crow-hunting trio.

The trio hunted private lands in Elk County all weekend. Colby harvested with a .243 r***e with a thermal scope. Reese shoots a .22-.250 r***e also with a thermal scope.

Colby had the first harvest at 10:30 pm on Saturday and brought a 12.0 # female coyote to the Rolfe weigh station. Colby harvested a 34.4 # female coyote on Sunday near 2:00 am. Reese showed off his shooting skills at a stand on Monday by harvesting a 26.0 # female coyote near 1:30 am. At yet another stand that morning, Reese harvested another female coyote at 13.8 # near 3:30 am.

Colby’s 34.4 # female coyote is currently the largest female coyote brought to the weigh station at Rolfe.

Reese also harvested two crows on Sunday in Elk County.
