🇺🇸 Remembering September 11, 2001
Today, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the courage and unity that emerged from one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.
This year, we also want to honor someone special within our Carolina Flyers family, Mason O’Connor and the O’Connor family.
Mason’s mom, Jennifer, served 20 years with the NYPD, retiring in 2020. She had been an officer for just about a year when September 11 happened. His dad, Jimmy, was also with the NYPD and had more experience on the job at the time. Both responded to Ground Zero.
Jennifer shared that it was a day marked by tremendous loss, but also incredible courage and unity. It is a day that has stayed with them ever since.
Jimmy went on to become a decorated NYPD detective, successfully handling countless cases throughout New York City before retiring a few years after Jennifer.
Although Jennifer has retired from the NYPD, she continues to return to the field and play with the NYPD Soccer Team, keeping that connection to the department and the people she served alongside.
Today, the O’Connors call Clayton home where they are raising their three children, Mikey, Mason, and Mia.
We are incredibly grateful for the sacrifices Jennifer and Jimmy made in service to others, and we are proud to have their family as part of our Carolina Flyers family. ❤️💙
Thank you, Jennifer and Jimmy, for your service, your courage, and the example you continue to set for your children and our community.
🇺🇸 We will never forget.
