MAY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT!

APRIL GOSS!

Let's meet April ~ a beautiful, strong woman who is a friend to all! She is an encourager! Her dedication and commitment inspires all of us.

Her fitness journey started long before she stepped inside a gym. She grew up on a farm in Berlin, Somerset County, where she was always trying to keep up with her brothers. Throughout grade school, she danced and twirled the baton. While in high school she was involved in cheerleading, dance squad, and ski club.

“After high school, fitness took a back seat. I was balancing art school, multiple jobs, and the chaos of early adulthood. That was hard! In my mid-20s, I started becoming active again. I tried just about everything — hiking, boxing, aerobics, African dance, Zumba… you name it. I enjoyed being active, but nothing ever really stuck,” April explains.

In 2012, April met Joe, who became her husband. And since Joe is a martial artist, she even gave karate a try. But the timing was not right because she couldn’t fully commit to the sport due to working two jobs.

“Then came 2020 — and we all know how that year went. After months of shutdowns and inactivity, I found myself at my heaviest and the unhealthiest I had ever felt. That summer, I decided to look into CrossFit, joined a local gym, and completely fell in love with it. For the first time as an adult, I found something I could stay consistent with. I loved the camaraderie, the community, and the competitive aspect of CrossFit. Competitions became my jam!”

In 2022, an old knee injury from nearly 20 years earlier came back to haunt her. April no longer had an ACL. She tore her meniscus and needed full ACL reconstruction and meniscus surgery. It was a major setback for her. Recovery wasn’t easy, but she stuck with it. She believes doing CrossFit and being active before the tear helped the recovery happen much faster both physically and mentally.

‘About two years ago, thanks to my longtime friends Jocelyn and Bryan Sauter — loyal CrossFit Incline members — I joined the Incline family. Since then, I’ve made some incredible friendships and found a community that truly feels like home. My time at the gym has become one of my favorite parts of every day.

I may not be hitting massive PRs lately, but I’m still proud of the progress I’ve made. My latest PRs are a 120 # bench press and 215 # deadlift, I "ran" my first-ever 5K a few years ago (and trust me, I am NOT a runner with my lovely knee!), and I got my first strict pull-up after joining CrossFit. It’s pretty amazing to be accomplishing things in my 40s that I couldn’t do in my 20s — and I’m excited to keep going.

At 45, I can honestly say I’m in the best shape of my life, both physically and mentally. If you’re reading this and thinking you’re too old, too out of shape, or too intimidated to start your own fitness journey, don’t let that stop you. It’s never too late to begin. Walking into a gym can feel scary at first, but the community at CrossFit Incline makes all the difference. The support, encouragement, and friendships you build along the way are just as rewarding as the physical progress. All you have to do is start. ❤️”

We are so proud of you, April! You are a wonderful role model for all of us! Thank you for your support, encouragement, and friendship!

APRIL MEMBER SPOTLIGHT!

Chris Sinosky, AKA Mrs. J3

Her story ~
“I started CrossFit because of my granddaughter. While playing outside one day when she was 4 years old, she got away from me and ran toward a busy road. I realized I could not catch her. Thankfully, my neighbor was also outside and able to get her to turn around. The moment shook me. It was a wake up call. I came into the house hysterical and immediately asked my spouse, J3, to sign me up for the three‑week beginner CrossFit course. J3 had been doing and coaching CrossFit for years. As a Type 2 diabetic, I also wanted to lose weight, get stronger, and improve my overall health—not just for myself, but so I could keep up with my family and be there for the moments that matter most. The three-week program helped me ease into CrossFit at my own pace and gave me the confidence to keep going.

I’ve always been active growing up. I was one of only a few girls in my neighborhood, so I spent a lot of time playing sports with my brother and his friends. In school, I played volleyball, tennis, and also participated in summer league softball.

After having my first daughter, exercise was no longer a priority, and, over time, my own health was on the back burner. When my second daughter was born, I did some exercising at home, but fitness wasn’t very consistent.

In 2002, a serious accident changed everything. While coaching cheerleading for my daughter's team, I was spotting a stunt. The cheerleader fell and hit my head, knocking me unconscious. At the hospital, doctors discovered I had a brain tumor. What followed was a long and difficult journey—I was out of commission for a couple of years due to complications and ultimately underwent five brain surgeries. Recovery took years, and during that time, I focused on healing and regaining my strength.

The scare with my granddaughter was in August of 2022. That's when I signed up for the three‑week CrossFit beginner course. CrossFit has definitely been challenging for me, especially since I started at 54 years old. At first, I wasn’t sure if I could really do it. I would see how my spouse, J3, felt when coming home from workouts and, honestly, I thought they were a little crazy for putting themselves through that. I couldn’t have been more wrong—they created a monster. For me, the gym is not just about physical health, but mental health as well. I’ve met some of the most amazing, supportive people who I now consider some of my best friends. It is the most encouraging and non‑judgmental environment I’ve ever been part of, and that support has made all the difference.

CrossFit really is for everyone, at any age, in my opinion. Apparently, you can teach an old dog new tricks. For me, showing up is the biggest battle—and once I do, everything else falls into place.

My goal moving forward is simply to keep showing up four days a week. I’ve come so far since starting. When I began, I couldn’t do a sit‑up, a push‑up, or jump rope to save my life. Now I can do all of those things—and I actually enjoy jumping rope. That progress alone reminds me why I keep coming back. My family is my life. I am one of three kids. I have an older brother and a younger sister who are incredibly supportive of my fitness journey. My spouse, J3, is my person, and our girls mean everything to me. And then there’s the grandbaby. I want to be around for her for as long as I possibly can. She’s one of the biggest reasons I continue to show up. Along with that—and maybe just as important—is my obsession with the 9:45 class and the incredible people at the gym who keep me coming back.”

Chris has lost weight, gotten stronger, and improved her overall health significantly! We are so proud of you, Chris! And are glad you are part of our family!

MARCH MEMBER SPOTLIGHT!

SAMANTHA CUNNINGHAM!

We are proud to shine the spotlight on a woman who embodies strength in every sense of the word ~ Sammi!

Sammi’s journey with fitness began long before CrossFit. A competitive athlete with a deep love for volleyball, she faced a major setback in high school after tearing her ACL ~ not once, but twice. While that injury shifted her path away from collegiate athletics, it sparked a passion for understanding the body and movement, leading her to pursue a degree in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University.

From being a self-proclaimed “gym rat” to falling in love with Zumba, fitness has always been a constant in Sammi’s life ~ even when life itself took her in different directions. Between nursing school, career demands, and eventually motherhood, her routine ebbed and flowed ~ but her drive never disappeared.

After having her first child in 2023, Sammi faced a new kind of challenge. Postpartum recovery brought pelvic and back issues that left her feeling defeated and disconnected from the strength she once knew. But if there’s one thing about Sammi ~ it’s that she doesn’t quit.

Instead of chasing old PRs, she chose something even more powerful: showing up.

These days, Sammi’s goal is simple but meaningful ~ get to the gym at least three times a week and give it her best. And while she hasn’t hit a PR in over four years, her perspective is inspiring: strength isn’t always measured in numbers. Sometimes, it’s measured in resilience, consistency, and the courage to keep going through life’s hardest seasons.

She’s not just building strength for herself ~ she’s building a legacy for her two little ones. Sammi is the kind of mom who leads by example, showing her children that fitness isn’t about perfection ~ it’s about commitment, adaptability, and self-respect. (And let’s be honest… she’s also making sure they know she can still kick their butts when needed 😉)

Sammi is strong.
She is dedicated.
She is real.
And she is exactly what our community is all about.

We’re so grateful to have you in the CFI family, Sammi!

FEBRUARY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT!

CHELSEA MYERS!

We are proud to introduce you to Chelsea, one of CFI’s most dedicated, consistent, and inspiring members! She joined us in 2019 ~ her story began long before.

In junior high, Chelsea got in shape while playing soccer ~ which required a lot of running! She avoided the Freshman 15 when she began college by walking EVERYWHERE and having salads twice a day (there was not a huge selection). During her sophomore year, things began to change. Eating habits changed. Walking habits changed. So did her weight. These changes continued through her 20s. At the end of 2017, Chelsea was 28 and did not feel great. "I had no energy. My mom was an instructor at the gym. She taught Group Power which is a full body weight lifting class. I started taking her class. Then, I tried other classes and quickly fell in love with GX, a HIIT circuit style class. I wanted to lose weight, but decided not to put a ton of focus on it or let it stress me out. The main goal was to feel better overall and gain some energy! Before I knew it, I lost 30 pounds by working out a few times a week and eating better."

In early 2019, a friend and coworker, Abby, invited Chelsea to join a class at CFI. "It was fun! I liked it! I got a gift card and give it a try for a full month in July. I was hooked immediately and here we are almost 7 years later! After joining CFI, I lost another 10 lbs and really started gaining muscle and strength!"

CrossFit has been life changing for Chelsea both physically and mentally. She has accomplished many new things and pushed herself more than she ever thought she could. Her strength us showcased by some impressive Personal Records ~ a 195 lb Back Squat and a 285 lb Deadlift! Wow!

"Fun fact: I couldn’t do a single jump rope when I started. Greg had me do some different things to simulate jumping rope and, in no time, I was stringing singles together. Some days, it’s just about showing up to get some movement in and clearing my head. Everyone at CFI is so welcoming and encouraging. I’ve met some pretty awesome people that I get to laugh and workout with everyday!"

Chelsea encourages others to know that CrossFit is not an intimidating sport. "There are so many ways to modify and make it work for you! Your goals will change. Life will get in the way. But it is never too late to start!"

Thank you, Chelsea, for being such a positive person and showing all of us that change is possible! Great change happens when we decide and commit. You are an excellent example to all of us as to what hard work can do. Keep it up!
