The Will County Farm Bureau Ag Literacy coordinator would like to help coordinate farm shadowing opportunities for teens interested in farming or a specific agricultural sector. If you are willing to share what you do and have a kid shadow you on your farm, or invite an elementary classroom to your farm for a field trip during the school year, please fill out the form below!

Roots of Retail Session 2 is coming up later this month! We will be hosting Kilgus Farmstead who will be discussing how they produce their delicious dairy products on their farm, and how dairy cattle are raised!
‼️Please be sure to RSVP by June 18th as we will be making our own ice cream and we want to ensure that we have enough supplies for all attendees 🍨

✨Member Spotlight!✨
Darrell Holmquist, former history teacher and Will County native, is also an author! Recently, he received an Award of Merit for his book, "New Lenox 1918: Serving, Suffering and Celebrating in a Small Town", which talks about life in the rural community during World War I. Holmquist retired from teaching in 2005 after more than three decades teaching U.S. history and western civilization, including stints at Joliet Central, Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way Central high schools. While at Joliet Central, he started the district’s first class focusing on Illinois and Joliet history.
Darrell is an active member of our Prime Timers group, and is always such a joy to talk to when he stops into our office! To read more about his award and works, check out the Chicago Tribune - Daily Southdown article below. We are so proud of your accomplishment, Darrell! 🎉
Three Southland authors earn Best of Illinois awards from State Historical Society Three authors with ties to the south suburbs were among the recipients of Best of Illinois 2026 awards from the Illinois State Historical Society, announced last month.

This past Thursday, we hosted our first of 5, Roots of Retail event! We welcomed Kelly Padden of Padden Family Farm (Beecher, IL) to come talk about how to raise nutritious, pasture-raised pork and everything that goes into being a pig farmer! 🐖 We also got to take a look at some of her pork products, and some of our attendees even got to take bone-in chops home! 🥩
We hope to see you at our next Roots of Retail Event on 🐄 June 25th from 4-6pm at the Will County Farm Bureau. It is a FREE event where you will learn about the dairy industry and what it takes to be a dairy farmer, as well as the opportunity to make your own ice cream! 🍨 Be on the lookout on our social media to learn more about the event and be sure to RSVP by June 18th!
