A great escape just 25 minutes south of the city of Chicago. The purpose of the Joliet Park District page is to inform the public about the Park District’s programs, activities, events and news. ⛳ September 8 is ! 🌱

A huge thank you goes out to John Ekstrom and Dan McDonald, along with their incredible grounds staff, for all the hard work they put into maintaining Inwood Golf Course, Wedgewood Golf Course, and Woodruff Golf Course.

Their dedication, pride, and care for our courses never go unnoticed. Long before the first golfer tees off, they’re already out there often in the dark, damp, and cold mornings working hard to make sure our golfers have the best possible experience.

From maintained greens and fairways to all the little details that make a great golf course, John, Dan, and their teams make it happen.

The next time you see them out on the course, be sure to stop and give them a BIG THANK YOU! 👏👏

A 100 years of Golf at Woodruff Golf Club

Name That Year! Woodruff in the 90’s was a significant chapter, including the construction of the third and current Clubhouse!

⛳ Woodruff GC would like to thank everyone who joined us to celebrate our 100th Anniversary Golf Outing! It was a beautiful day filled with great golf, laughs and memories that have made Woodruff special for the past 100 years.

💯 A Century of Golf, A Once-in-a-Lifetime Price!

On August 7, 1926, it was announced that Woodruff Golf Course would open on September 6, 1926, with a fee of just 50 cents per player—and golfers could play as long as they wished!

While we can’t quite turn back the clock to 50-cent golf, we can celebrate 100 years of golfing history. To mark this special milestone, On June 30, 2026, we're offering a commemorative rate of $19.26 per player for a tee time that includes cart!

⛳ Woodruff Golf Course 100 Year Anniversary Celebration

Clubhouse Then & Now

In May 1925, the Board approved the acceptance of George and Louise Woodruff’s land donation for a golf course and agreed to help fund the construction of the course and lodge, with expenses not to exceed $30,000. On Labor Day, September 6, 1926, Woodruff Municipal Golf Course officially opened to the public. Just one year later, in 1927, George and Louise Woodruff donated additional land, allowing the second nine holes to be built.

The course continued to grow over the years. The original clubhouse was renovated in 1963, and a new clubhouse was planned by the Joliet Park Board in 1997 and constructed between 1998 and 1999.
