Three Elements of a Successful Diversity & Inclusion Program – Jackson Walker 02/15/2023

As you are designing your next DEI program/initiative, this is worth some thought. Summary: Element One, failure to establish concrete goals. Organizations sometimes move forward with DEI initiatives with a "just because" attitude and should be sure there are concrete goals for a training to be effective. An effective trainer/consultant will ask about your goals. This allows them to tailor a session specifically to you and your organization. Element Two, Insufficient Training highlights how organizations need to ensure that those leading or consulting about their efforts have the appropriate credentials. For example, if you want an assessment or strategic plan, is there experience, resources, etc to get the job completed. Element Three, Adequate measure of Success. Some organizations do not know how success looks for their DIE program, how to track it, how to set a timeline, how to add accountability measures.

I will also add that I have seen a "One and Done" approach where a consultant or group comes in to assist with a session, whether one-hour or one-day, and that's it. It's important to guide or get professionals to help you guide ongoing conversations and incremental change plans.

After Condemning ‘Trendy Ideology’ in Higher Ed, Florida’s Governor Targets a Small College 01/11/2023

"Rufo also said in a different tweet that he wants to abolish the college’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies..."

Sigh! There's a lot in this article about revamping the school, replacing certain curriculum connected to equity topics, etc. DEI is good for everyone. In its most simple form, it teaches individuals how to empathize with one another, to think outside their own experience. That's a life skill. To want to remove opportunities for those discussions is controlling and a leap in the wrong direction.

Equality and Inclusion helps us remove Ego. Its not always about you and what you what you believe. There are experiences, traditions, knowledge, etc. that exist outside what you know and understand. That's okay
