Today is National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which began in remembrance of USA Volleyball star and Olympian Flo Hyman.

In 1986, Flo passed away at age 31 while playing in a pro match in Japan. She accomplished many things during her life, including earning a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics. She was also a leader in the promotion for equality in women’s sports.
