SDI has completely revamped their DPV Diver course, and one line from the new eLearning says it perfectly:
“A DPV is not a shortcut. It is a force multiplier for divers who pair efficiency with discipline.”
That’s exactly why proper training matters.
Many divers assume a scooter is simply for covering more distance, but a DPV must be integrated into the dive plan. Gas management, navigation, emergency procedures, and exit strategies all change when a DPV is involved.
Without training, divers can find themselves dealing with:
- Runaway triggers
- Entanglement hazards
- Battery failures
- Flooded units
- Insufficient gas reserves to reach an exit point
The new SDI course teaches divers how to use a DPV safely and efficiently so the scooter becomes an asset rather than a liability.
Whether you’re interested in reef dives, wrecks, caves, or simply extending your range while conserving energy, this course is designed to help you do it the right way. Discipline is key.
