Juneau Softball Association (JSA)

Looking for a team that need a benchwarmer and possible catcher! if so let me know! Thank you!
The world lost an amazing guy last week and the Island Pub lost a great friend.
Dean Van Dusseldorp may have left Juneau a while ago, but he continued to meet his team in Utah for the Huntsman's Games and in Nevada for motorcycle rides with Dennis Powers. Dean (Deano) was a sweet, sweet man with the best smile and a RockStar Shortstop. He is missed.

This is from his daughter Faye who followed him everywhere. She was always by his side and in the dugout when Island Pub played.

Dean VanDusseldorp, 67, passed away February 12, 2022 in North Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by his family. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was born September 28, 1954 in Fort Hood, Texas to Ralph Van Dusseldorp and Sharon (Heggen) Van Dusseldorp.
He grew up in Iowa City, Iowa, graduating from Iowa City High School in 1972. He attended the University of Iowa where he met his wife, Karen Evans. They married and moved to Juneau, Alaska in 1977. In 1989, Dean and Karen welcomed a daughter, Faye. Dean built a career in computer programming for the State of Alaska, holding many positions, culminating with his work for the Alaska Marine Highway System. He retired in 2009 and relocated to North Las Vegas. Dean was a talented athlete and an avid sports fan. He loved playing softball and was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan. Since the day he received his drivers license, Dean loved to be behind the wheel of a fast car and on the open road, resulting in frequent travel.
Dean is survived by his beloved daughter, Faye Patterson (Jim), granddaughters, Eleanor VanDusseldorp and Matilda Schumm, North Las Vegas, Nevada, mother, Sharon Van Dusseldorp (William Peak), Iowa City, Iowa, brother, David Van Dusseldorp (Debbie Beermann) Iowa City, Iowa, sister, Susan Hamada (Craig), Draper, Utah, step-mother, Marilyn Johnson, Tucson, Arizona, and a large, loving extended family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Van Dussseldorp, and his wife, Karen VanDusseldorp.
Dean will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp intellect, easy laugh, and the twinkle in his eye.
“Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” -Babe Ruth
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Empower Nepali Girls www.empowernepaligirls.org or the charity of your choice.
Softball season is coming. Only used a few times, have too many bags. $60
Lost face mask, purple. Last seen field 2 in the dugout on the field 3 side. If you picked it up, please contact self or Clarena on MadBatters. Thank you
Anyone know where I can buy a thigh compression TODAY!!! lol. Thanks! 😁
Good evening all, I missed the deadline to sign up for summer softball. Is there any teams that need a "semi-okay" player?
Non-Approved Bats - Looks like no changes since 3/17.
Below is the link to the process in getting your team registered. Please read it carefully especially the league registration terms and waiver section.

I know it’s winter here but an Anchorage co-ed team is looking for two ladies to go to wolds in Vegas December 4-6. They are playing E division. I am going on a Colorado team and playing with my sisters team. I can help with housing arrangements if needed. They are looking for infield and a catcher. Let me know if anyone has questions or is interested

Good morning!

During the JSA Board Meeting last Sunday, the decision was made to move forward with compression testing all bats for our Rainball Tournament only. If you are not participating in Rainball and your bat has a JDOA sticker, you are good to go for the season.

All bats used during Rainball will need to be tested and have a Rainball sticker on them.

For teams and players in town, our first scheduled time for bat compression testing will be tonight from 5:30pm-7:30pm. We will be set up close to the concession stand at Dimond Park. We are planning to be out there for a couple of hours this weekend, and Monday-Wednesday of next week leading up to Rainball.

For anyone traveling into Juneau, we will offer bat testing next Thursday and Friday at the fields. Please be on the look out for additional communication through email and social media on exact times. We will send out the full schedule as soon as possible.

Schedule Update!! 🍔🚚 Garvie's Lunchbox will not be at the fields tonight (Wednesday the 15th) - but they'll be back this Friday the 17th, starting at 5 PM.

Today is the day! Swing by the fields from 5-8 pm tonight and try something from the newest food truck in town: Garvies.lunchbox 🍔 They'll be serving up gourmet burgers, hot dogs, and other treats by the concessions stand area at the fields.

Garvie's Lunchbox will out there on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5-8 pm - we will make sure to post if the schedule changes.

Support your local food truck community and stick around to watch softball games!

Highlights from Spring Season! Feel free to tag and download photos. We'll see everyone next week for Regular Season games!

Shoutout to Craig Capizzi for contributing to this album. 📸

📣 Update on bat testing: due to a shipping issue with our new bat stickers, we will NOT be compression testing bats until right before Rainball. Any bats that already have a JDOA sticker (from spring season or previous seasons) are good to use for the time being and do not need to be stickered again.

For anyone that needs to get a new bat stickered - come to the fields this week and look for Rachelle and Erika. They'll be available starting tonight (Tuesday) 6:30-7:30 pm, Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 pm, Thursday, 6:30-7:30 pm and Saturday, 2-4 pm.

We will send out an update when we have the bat testing schedule finalized for Rainball. Thanks everyone!
