Hank Harmon Public Range

Hank Harmon Public Range

To the kid and his buddy( if yall are on here) who just came out with the AR10 you should at the very least sweep your brass off the deck and not leave it for someone elts to have to pick up. This isn't your parents house, leave it cleaned up for the next guy.
If your on here and you know who you are, please do not leave your cigarette butts on the benches, nooooo one wants to have to clean them up for you, there are trash cans FOR TRASH. Thanks. If you want to litter and leave stuff around please use remote places(preferably not eaven that)at the very least, or go buy your own shooting range to leave trash at.

Winter is coming. There is a little less daylight everyday; therefore, the range closes a little earlier each day. When the street lights come on, it's time to go home. Thank you, shoot safely.
😊 The range has never been so clean before. A big thank you to all those who came out and, worked hard to clean up the years of accumulated debris. It's so beautiful, getting better all the time.

Reminder that when the 3 street lights are on, the range is closed for shooting. During the winter you may see the gate open, that does not mean you may shoot, it is often open for the Nordic club to use the lot instead of clogging the street. Failure to follow the rules will result in a loss of range privileges. Thank you.

PSA - Shooting food products is not allowed at the range, this includes pumpkins and other gourds. If you see someone shooting these items, be nice, and please direct them to the rules of the range posted on both sides of the range or contact Hank Harmon with their license plate and brief description of the person and the board will deal with them directly. Failure to follow the rules may result in the loss of your privilege to use the range. Thank you.

PSA - The long range will be closed this Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18 from 8-6 for scheduled events. The short range will be available for use during this time. Thank you.

The short range(pistol side) will be closed for public use Sunday, September 20, 8AM until 6 PM, for a private class, the long range will be available for use during this time. Thank you.

Monte Ray Kyser, 63, passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2020.

Monte loved going to the Hank Harmon Range
any day he was not working. It was a place that reminded him of the vast acreage he grew up in Viroqua, WI, where he first learned how to shoot long distances. He and his wry sense of humor will be missed greatly by many!

If you would like to leave a memory of how you knew Monte Kyser, you may send them to his wife at [email protected], who will
share them with his sister and stepson.

Thank you in advance for sharing your memories, as they are a blessing to all who read them.

The Range will be closed Tuesday, July 28 for a Flag Folding Ceremony in memory of Monte Kyser from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Thank you to all who showed up to help clean up the range. Great job everyone.

Great event to promote our local shooting sports!

Apologies for the scheduling oversight, we will look at other days for the cleanup weather permitting.

PSA Reminder Long range closure Sunday, October 27 9:00-5:00
This event is a fundraiser for JRPC and Naresh is donating his time and expertise.
If you have questions stop in at Juneau Mercantile and Armory Tue-Sat 10-7 and talk to Naresh

$20 for JRPC members
$40 for NON-JRPC members (Membership is $20 a year)

From Naresh,

"This event will emphasize "move, assess, engagement and threat neutralize" both with handgun and carbine. ( AKs, ARs, etc) Bring gear that you want to test out. If folks are interested in adding or supplementing shotgun please bring them. LOTS of ammo so like the last two times folks don't run out and lose part of the event participation (!) We also intend to do this come rain, sun, snow, wind ...whatever ...so please come properly dressed. Bring water and snacks as there will be a break in between. Also, involvement is in- what makes you comfortable. Remember you are NOT competing against anyone but yourself.

As we have already done 2 of these I an anticipating of twerking up the runs aka there will be areas that will run "hot" ( very essential to keep the integrity of the course run intact) ...of course bearing in mind new participants or folks not familiar with my courses can still opt for the " clear" stoppages along the course . We can easily facilitate this by grouping the experience and comfort level of each participant in this fundraiser event.
The intent of this course is to -
-Learn more advanced threat neutralization tactics using new assessment protocols
-pushing one's self with safety in mind
- repeated exercises to maintain muscle memory protocols
- and learn more about your gear regardless of what experts write in magazines!

Essentially folks attending this event get an Insight and a chance to participate in exercises that are presently being taught to DOD personnel and other professionals without having to join up (!)
I intend to offer and show for no charge what I have learned for so long from professionals to folks here who don't get this opportunity and have to pay oodles of money to travel and take these courses down south from companies for profit.
And because I believe, to learn to better yourself in firearm tactics should be available to all, not the rich or the selected few."

In the past 2 days I have pulled of 5 chairs from the firing line due to people shooting them, more shots are being taken at the dividing wall between the two ranges, and I have picked up numerous glass fragments from people shooting bottles, if you see this and don’t say anything, this behavior won’t stop. If you don’t want to interact with the offender, get their license plate number, description of the people and vehicle and I will serve them with No Trespass orders. Security cameras are another option we are considering. This is one of the only free ranges left in the state, help us keep it!

As a reminder as we start heading into the fall season, we are seeing sunset earlier each day, the range closes when the street light is on, even on clear days it is coming on before 9pm, please take that into consideration when coming to shoot and be prepared to pack it up when the light is on, thank you.

End America’s Birthday week with a BANG!

All you have to do is show up with your rifle or handgun, (restrictions below); the range will already be set up. Several Range Safety Officers, (RSOs), will be on site for safety. Everyone is welcome. You do not have to pick a time or preregister. There will be several shooting stations and targets will already be set up. Just show up and clang and bang away.
▪ When: Saturday, July 6th 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
▪ Where: Short side of the Hank Harmon Range (public range on Montana Creek Rd.)
▪ Fi****ms: restricted to rimfire rifle/handgun and centerfire handguns. (.45 ACP or smaller caliber.) No magnums.
▪ Safety glasses and ear protection provided and must be worn at all times, including bystanders.
▪ Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
ALL youth shooters, (18 or younger), will receive 100 rounds of 22LR FREE, and we have four 22LR rifles that will be available to use! Adults may also use the rifles but preference is given to youths. This generous gift is made possible by grant money from the NRA Foundation.

Notice * The long range will be closed for a private event tomorrow, May 5th from 7 AM until 6 PM. The short range will be available for public use.

As a reminder to shooters, food is not allowed as targets, eggs, pumpkins, squash, canned goods, no food at all. If you see someone shooting food, please direct them to the rules posted all over or if you dont want to confront them, message/text/call me with a description and their license plate number and I will take care of it. We are all responsible for taking care of our range if it is to continue being free for public use. Also, NO clay pigeons, aerial or otherwise. Violation of the rules could result in permanent loss of access to the range.
