When is the Rock Gym opening? This week are the final interviews for the climbing wall coordinator position. That person will be conducting orientations to the wall. When completed you will have a card on file indicating that you are able to use our gym. The rock gym orientation schedule will be posted soon here, on the campus calendar, and on poster around town. Due to keeping number low, there are likely to be online sign-ups. More information soon!

Worth repeating. The REC Center goes by the same COVID policies as the rest of campus. If you see someone not masking while working out in the REC Center or not distancing, making you and others feel uncomfortable, please first approach that person and remind them of the policy and that it is to protect everyone and to help in keeping the REC Center open. If that doesn't work, please go the the REC Service Desk and they will take it from there. The REC Center remaining open during the academic year is vital to our mental health!

UAS STUDENTS: COVID Info for Fall 2021

Dear Students,

We are ready to welcome you to a safe and sustainable semester at UAS. There are three things we need you to know as you start the fall semester:

1. We’ll be masking. Face coverings are required in all buildings, outside if you can’t maintain six feet distance, and at all UAS sponsored activities or events, regardless of location. If you come to campus and forget your mask, we’ve got you covered. Supplies are everywhere! Face Covering Policy: https://loom.ly/IvEvvE0

2. If you are traveling to UAS and you’re not vaccinated, we need you to spend a few days away from campus before you join us. Read our UAS Campus Entry policies for details. LINK: https://loom.ly/jI4PAF0

3. If you do not feel well, please do not come to campus. If you’re experiencing COVID symptoms, consult with a health care provider and let us know how we can help you by contacting your instructors, your advisor, or email [email protected].

The key to navigating COVID at UAS this fall is the same as navigating the weather in Southeast Alaska: layer, layer, layer. Distance and mask. Use our cleaning supplies. Stay home when you're sick. If you’re not already and you can, get vaccinated. Find a Vaccination Clinic: https://loom.ly/avTUxqo

I’ll let you know if our COVID response layers change, and you’re always welcome to visit our COVID-19 Plan & FAQ information on the website. LINK: https://loom.ly/jI4PAF0

Take care. Be well. See you next week!

Lori Klein, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs

This applies to the UAS Recreation Center while exercising and in common spaces. We have masks at the main desk for those that forget.

Masking Policy Update

For the time being, UAS is requiring everyone, including fully-vaccinated people to wear face coverings on campus.

Effective Tuesday, July 20, 2021:
😷 Face coverings are required on campus and at University sponsored activities regardless of location.
😷 Every person, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask or face shield that completely covers the person’s nose and mouth.
😷 Face coverings may be removed only if a person can easily maintain a continuous distance of at least six feet from all other persons, and one is: outside, or engaged in an activity incompatible with mask wearing (e.g. dining) in a space officially designated for that activity, or an employee at their designated work station who has no direct contact with the public.

[07/15/21]   Due to the Annex being painted we've had to remove our paddle boards and canoes. These items are not available for rental until we can lock them up again following painting. Watercraft available include our inflatable paddle boards and kayaks (locked to dock). Sorry for the inconvenience.

[07/02/21]   Don't miss out! This is a fantastic student position at the REC Center... join the team!

Starting next week members will be responsible for sanitizing their equipment prior to use, this includes cardio equipment (handles, screen/buttons)and free weights: dumbbells, barbells, and cushions. To ensure this is done we recommend you use our provided wipes both before and after working out. We will continue to disinfect equipment that is loaned from the service desk.
