On our way back we will stop at other historical spots, sea caves, and lava tubes for you to see. Black Water Dive EcoAdventure
Dive the depths of the deep, dark ocean at night and witness the radiant creatures that glow and swim in the dark. Over 2 miles off the Kona coast in 5,000 feet of water, each diver is suspended from the boat at depths up to 50 feet to drift with the ocean current and the creatures that live here. Come witness for yourself the incredible bioluminescent dance of pelagic sea creatures swimming nightly through these waters. Over eons of time, sea creatures such as jellyfish, fish and bacteria created chemical processes to emit light energy known as chemiluminescence. This is the same process used by fireflies on land to glow at night. Most marine bioluminescence is seen as blue-green light which become more visible when observed in the deep ocean. Organisms exhibit bioluminescence for many reasons, including hunting prey, defense against predators, and finding mates. Some employ counter illumination using their glow of light to blend into light sources from above. Effectively hiding in plain sight from predators hunting from below. Manta Ray Night Dive & Snorkel EcoAdventure
Mark an item off your bucket list and join us for an incredible encounter with the Kona Manta Rays at night. This world famous dive/snorkel trip has been featured on numerous Travel, National Geographic and Discovery Channel programs. The Hawaiian Kona Coast is home to over 240 resident Manta Rays and each has been identified and named. Much like a fingerprint is unique to each human, Manta Rays have distinguishing black and white markings on their underside that are used to identify them nightly. These gentle giants can grow up to 16 feet in length and weigh up to 1600 pounds, but they have nothing that bites or stings, making this the safest large animal encounter in the world. Groups of Manta Rays converge nightly off of Makako Bay (Garden Eel Cove), to feed on the Phytoplankton & Zooplankton that appear to soak up the glow given off by underwater dive lights. Enjoy a scenic sunset boat ride along the Kona coast to the manta location. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will instruct you on how to encounter these amazing creatures so we can protect the mantas and their habitat. In a water depth of about 30-40 feet, both snorkelers and certified SCUBA divers are able to safely view the incredible performance by the manta rays. Whale Watching EcoAdventure
Witness the majestic Humpback Whales, as they become temporary Kama'aina in the warm waters off the Hawaiian Islands. Every year these gentle giants migrate to breed, give birth, and frolic in the crystal blue waters. Experience these marine mammals as they play in their natural habitat through spy hopping, tail slapping, breaching, and many other curious behaviors. By using our hydrophone (underwater microphone), you can hear the beautiful songs and calls from up to twelve miles away. Our educated staff provides you with excellent narration throughout this 2.5 to 3 hour tour as we cruise along the Kona Coast. You will have plenty of opportunity to see other forms of marine life, including Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins, Pilot Whales, False Killer Whales, Beaked Whales and more on this exciting and informative EcoAdventure with the Humpback Whales!
