5/10/26 We should all savor the moments we have with our Sensei. We never know when its our last lesson.
One of the hardest truths in martial arts is realizing that no teacher stays forever. Every dojo eventually reaches the moment where the person who carried its knowledge, discipline, and spirit steps away, leaving the next generation responsible for preserving what was taught. That is why traditional karate placed such importance on respect and repetition—not just to create skilled fighters, but to ensure the art could survive beyond a single lifetime. A great teacher does more than demonstrate techniques; they shape character, values, and the culture of the dojo itself. When that presence is gone, students are left with one final question: were they only trained to follow instructions, or were they prepared to carry the legacy forward themselves?
