Stuff those little free libraries, buy a kid a book, get a library card to help fund your local library…whatever way you can spread kindness & support literacy, do it for Dolly ♥️📚🦋

Today is Give Like Dolly Day! ❤️

Dolly believed that when you’re in a position to help, you should help. She gave generously, dreamed big for children and spent her life finding ways to make a difference in the lives of others.

Today, we’re carrying that spirit forward.

📚 We invite you to by supporting children in your own community. Find your local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program and discover how you can help put books into the homes of children where you live.

🫶 Help bring books to your community: If the Imagination Library isn’t available where you live, learn how you can help bring a local program to your community. Visit imaginationlibrary.com and select your country from the main menu to explore how to get started.

Every community has an opportunity to give a little love, lend a hand and help a child dream a little bigger.

Sometimes the best way we can show our kids how to care for themselves is by letting them watch us do it first. ❤️

Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s something we want our children to learn, too.

What’s one thing you’re doing for YOU this week? 👇🏼✨

Parents in the Manistee area, if you are looking for a great place to meet other parents while your kids of all ages can enjoy play dates, check out the Discovery Cove for sure!

If you visited us earlier this year and thought, “Hmm… I’m not sure,” we totally understand. “Hectic” is an understatement regarding the Open House.
We were brand new, figuring things out, and still building toward what we wanted Discovery Cove to be.

Since then, we’ve grown and made a LOT of changes.

We’re a small local nonprofit, and thanks to the support we’ve received from our community, we’ve been able to put funds right back into Discovery Cove. We have been making things more organized, adding new things to explore, improving our spaces, and continuing to make it a better experience for local kids and families. 🥹💙

So if it’s been a while, come see what’s different.

We’d genuinely love another chance to show you what we’ve been working on.

🌿 LET’S BUILD OUR VILLAGE TOGETHER. 🌿

One thing I hear again and again from parents in our rural communities is that we want connection. We want support. We want to find our people.

But what does that actually LOOK like for you?

I’ve been dreaming about creating some opportunities for parents to connect, talk, laugh, learn, vent, and maybe occasionally finish a cup of coffee while it’s still hot. ☕😂

But before I start throwing ideas at the wall, I want to hear from YOU.

Would you be interested in things like:

☕ Coffee Hours with a Doula
Casual conversations where you help decide the topic. Feeding struggles? Sleep? Returning to work? Relationships after baby? The “why the hell is nobody warning us about THIS?” moments? We talk about what you actually need that week.

🥾 Trail Meets
Walks + talks + fresh air. Bring the babies, bring the kids, bring yourself. No pressure to look put together. Bonus points if your toddler spends the entire walk collecting rocks.

📚 Book Clubs
Parenting books, fiction, nonfiction, true crime… honestly, I’m not ruling anything out. 😂

🥗 Lunch Meets
Because sometimes adults need to sit at a table and eat food that someone else prepared while talking to people who understand the chaos.

🤍 Parent Support Groups
A space to share, listen, ask questions, celebrate wins, and talk about the hard stuff without feeling like you need to have it all together.

And I’d LOVE your input on the logistics, too:

👩 Moms only?
👨 Dads only?
👨‍👩‍👧 Open to any parent?
🌿 A mix of different types of groups?

👶 Kids welcome?
☕ Adult-only gatherings?
🔄 A mix of both?

📍 Where should we meet?
One consistent location? Or rotate around the area so different communities get a chance to host something close to home?

Think Traverse City • Interlochen • Benzie • Manistee • Bear Lake • and everywhere in between.

📅 How often would you actually participate?
Weekly?
Every other week?
Monthly?
Occasionally, depending on the topic/activity?

And most importantly…

💭 WHAT DO YOU FEEL OUR AREA IS MISSING?

What would make you think, “YES. I need this.”

Maybe it’s a place to talk without judgment.
Maybe it’s meeting other parents who live five minutes away but somehow you’ve never actually met.
Maybe it’s practical support.
Maybe it’s friendship.
Maybe it’s simply having somewhere to go where nobody cares if you showed up in yesterday’s leggings.

I want to build something that is actually useful to the parents in our communities, not just another group that exists on Facebook.

So tell me what you want. 👇
Drop your ideas, preferences, and wildest “someone should really create this” thoughts in the comments.

Let’s build the village together. 🤍🌿

25 years later, we remember 🇺🇸

Today we pause to honor the lives forever changed on September 11, 2001.

We remember the thousands of innocent people who never made it home.
We remember the families who lost someone they loved.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and countless ordinary people who ran toward danger while others were running away.
We remember the courage, the grief, the uncertainty, and the extraordinary acts of kindness that emerged from unimaginable tragedy.

And we remember because behind every number was a person.
A parent. A child. A spouse. A sibling. A friend.
Someone who was loved and whose absence changed the course of countless lives.

Twenty-five years later, may we continue to tell their stories, honor their memories, and teach the generations who came after us what it means to remember.

We will never forget 🕊️🇺🇸

I don’t support women in creating birth plans that fit society.
I support women in creating birth plans that fit them.

Your birth. Your body. Your choices. Your power. ❤️

Let’s make a plan that puts YOU at the center.

This systematic review (a study of studies on a particular topic) compared routine oxytocin administration, the key component of “Active Management of Third Stage,” with expectant management and physiologic care to determine which policy best prevents postpartum hemorrhage. The investigators made these comparisons because the studies that established Active Management as superior had compared it with expectant management, i.e., doing nothing. They theorized that the proper comparison was to physiologic care, itself a package of protective measures, including “creating a warm, safe environment, encouraging upright positioning, and promoting immediate skin-to-skin contact with the newborn.”

The review included 7 studies and 7,091 participants. All participants were low risk and had labors that began and progressed on their own and ended in vaginal birth.

When routine oxytocin was compared with expectant management, expectant management resulted in 21 more cases per 1,000 of blood loss equal to or greater than 1,000 mL.

When routine oxytocin was compared with physiologic care, physiologic care resulted in 18 fewer cases per 1,000 of blood loss equal to or greater than 1,000 mL.

Two studies allowed them to make a comparison between routine oxytocin and expectant management in populations with limited or no use of epidurals and no instrumental vaginal deliveries. Expectant management resulted in 19 more cases per 1,000 of blood loss equal to or greater than 1,000 mL.

Physiologic care--which unlike active management has no adverse effects--is therefore much the superior option for preventing hemorrhage in low-risk, spontaneous labors ending in vaginal birth.

🌿 Did you know? 🌿

Spinning Babies® is specialized training that must be completed through the Spinning Babies® program itself. It’s not simply a collection of techniques that anyone can learn online and call themselves certified.

Happy Mother’s Day from AMS Doula Services 🤍

Today we celebrate every kind of mothering love.
To the moms, soon-to-be moms, first-time moms, grandmas, bonus moms, aunts, sisters, stand-in moms, grieving moms, those longing to become moms, and the women quietly holding everyone together behind the scenes… you are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.

To the families who have trusted me to support them as they stepped into motherhood, thank you for allowing me a place in such sacred moments of your lives. It is an honor I never take lightly.

Wishing you all a day, and a lifetime, filled with the kind of love and celebration you so greatly deserve. 🌸
