[11/30/16]   Mommy I Want a Pony Program
The homeschool community has spoken and Goal Oriented Animal Therapy had heard you!
You told us you wanted something affordable, educational and fun. You wanted something that would help your children learn new skills, become kinder, more cooperative people. You wanted something that would teach them to get along with their siblings and friends, really listen to what your are saying, pay attention and follow through with tasks. You also told us your children would really like a pony or they want to take lessons but maybe they don’t understand the time, cost and hard word that goes along with that.

We have come up with a program for you.
The Mommy I Want a Pony Program is for homeschoolers or other groups wanting to learn the realities of horse ownership. Each one hour lesson covers a different aspect of horse ownership and care.
$15 per child
Bring your homeschool group of 5-10 kiddos to our beautiful Kaneohe ranch to learn about:
Practical life skills-Horse and ranch safety
Anatomy-Horse anatomy, gender, breeds, colors
Taking care of our things so they last-Saddles and other horse equipment
Time management- Daily care and maintenance, exercise requirements,
Responsibility- mucking and grooming,
Math and economics- how much do they eat, how much does it cost, vet costs, more
Herd dynamincs- what can horse behavior tell us about our own interactions with others

Sign your group up for 6 weekly lessons and receive a certificate in basic horse care upon completion. Or come out for just a few visits to learn some useful skills.

Available times: Tuesday through Thursday between 8:15am and 12:15.
*Please inquire about other times.
This is not a riding program. But we do offer theraputic riding lessons and equine facilitated therapies. Please ask about package rates and sibling discounts. We also have holiday camps before and after Christmas, over spring break, and in the summer.

WHAT IS EQUINE FACILITATED PSYCHOTHERAPY AND LEARNING?

Equine Assisted Activities encompass the physical, mental, emotional and social realms, however the Equine Facilitated Mental Health and Learning format specifically addresses the needs of people with mental and emotional health issues. Horses provide reflective opportunities that can be utilized to meet individual, couple, or family goals through Equine Facilitated Learning. This form of experiential learning that involves horses includes a number of mutually beneficial equine activities such as handling, grooming, longeing, riding, driving, and vaulting. EFL provides the client with opportunities to enhance self awareness and repattern maladaptive behaviors, feelings and attitudes.

Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy promotes personal exploration of feelings and behaviors while allowing clinical interpretation of feelings and behaviors with a therapist. EFP denotes an ongoing therapeutic relationship with clearly established treatment goals and objectives. The therapist must be an appropriately credentialed mental health professional to legally practice psychotherapy. A working partnership between the therapist, the horse, and the equine specialist in mental health and learning creates a therapeutic environment for the client to progress. EFL and EFP may be used by people with psychosocial issues and mental health needs that result in any significant variation in cognition, mood, judgment, insight, anxiety level, perception, social skills, communication, behavior, or learning.
Examples include but are not limited to:
● Anxiety Disorders ● Mood Disorders ● Behavioral Difficulties ● Other Mental Illness ● Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ● Autism ● Receptive or Expressive Language Disorders ● Personality Disorders ● Depression ● Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ● Major Life Changes such as environmental trauma, divorce, grief and loss.

If you are an individual seeking Equine Facilitated Learning services with GOAT please contact Sandy Modzelewska at [email protected]

If you are a mental health provider and interested in bringing your clients to Goal Oriented Animal Therapy for equine facilitated psychotherapy services, please contact Sandy Modzelewska at [email protected]

I had the opportunity to attend a Wounded Warrior Project event last night. What an amazing organization with amazing people. Thank you, Kayla Clark for the Painting with a Twist event, and thank you Tricia Kirn for inviting me. Everyone's creations were unique and beautiful. Take a look at what I made.

[08/16/16]   Today begins my journey to Bozeman Montana for the Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning Certification Clinic. I am very happy to be adding these skills and knowledge to my resume. But more importantly I am excited about the opportunities and programs we will be able to offer here at the GOAT learning center.

The horses have arrived in Kaneohe and are acclimating and enjoying the warm weather. Everyone made the journey safely. We are all so relieved! Although May's eye looked a bit puffy for a few days, my amazing daughter Hailey has managed to heal her, using love, clean water and a fly mask. I am busy preparing programs and classes for the fall so if you have any questions, special requests or needs, now is the time to speak up. See you all in September!

[06/09/16]   Goal Oriented Animal therapy is relocating. Our animal therapists are currently on their way to Kaneohe Hawaii!! We are all very excited to be able to provide animal facilitated learning and development classes, as well as therapeutic riding year round at our new location beginning in September 2016. We are located on six beautiful acres at the base of the Kualoa mountains, just five minutes from the hub of Kaneohe, yet in a quiet country setting. We offer private horsemanship and riding lessons to individuals of all abilities, catering specifically to those with special needs, developmental delays, learning and physical challenges and others who would like to partner with a horse, dog or goat in working towards their own goals. We are not a lesson barn, instead we partner with animals to help you grow and work on your goals. Working with animals will teach you or your loved one socialization, listening, self control, problem solving and a kinder way of interacting. Convincing a 1000 pound animal to trust you enough to want to do what you ask is incredibly empowering. You cannot force a relationship like this. The interactions build physical strength while activating the mind. A horses gait closely resembles the human gait and can help rebuild the muscle tone lost or underdeveloped in those with mobility issues. Please contact us for more information. We are currently creating programs and schedules so this is a good time to voice your needs so that we can accommodate you. email [email protected] for more information.

[04/22/16]   We are so excited for the PPTRC Country Couture Fashion Show and Auction tomorrow night. 5pm at swan housee manor (I think itis called) I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work with the great folks at their Penrose location a few times a week doing equine facilitated programs. It is amazing what horses can do for us...and I mean mentally, emotionally, spiritually...not just physically. Every day there is amazing and I learn something new. Thank you guys for making me feel so welcome and appreciated. I appreciate working with you and absorbing all the wisdom you have to offer.

[03/13/16]   Thanks you to Iron Horse Christian Youth Ranch for allowing me to volunteer and learn from you. You have so much to offer kids and adults needing equine assisted therapies, learning and hippotherapy (with Kesti At Christ Haven), in addition to riding lessons and horse powered reading. You have been wonderful. I look forward to what next week will bring.

[02/11/16]   Our baby goats arrived early Feb 10 2016. Welcome Fern and Lucky Wilbur! Congratulations mama Flora. Fern is nursing strong after doula Merrin brought her arsenal of knowledge and vitamins (and a great cheesemaking book!) Lucky Wilbur is hanging in there after a rough and chilly start. We think he is Joy's baby, but she does not seem interested in him. Luckily Flora is a wonderful mom and is accepting him more at each feeding. He was able to stand on his own later in the day, though he is not quite mobile yet. Posting pictures shortly.

Finally a sunny day to run a play!

[01/13/16]   The sun is out and Barn Force One is basking in it every chance they get. This week we are working on jumping through hoops. This a new skill for our dogs and it's been so much fun to watch them and their human friends learn the trick together. Task training helps our human friends with physical skills like hand eye coordination, sequencing, body awareness and strength. But it also has many cognitive benefits including planning, social skills development, building self esteem and learning self control. Please join us for your own journey towards your goals.

[12/20/15]   Simplywellbeing.com It a website for ADHD resources and education. But it reminds me of how and why G.O.A.T came to be
"Perhaps one day those of us with ADHD will no longer have to create our own business in order to find a company where we actually want to work and that recognises the value in our independence, innovation and lateral thinking"

Goat Milk Soap has some amazing qualities to assist with so many skin problems including some of the really nasty ones like Eczema and Psoriasis, but don’t think you have to have troubled skin to use Goat Milk soap, it will also help nurture and protect healthy skin.
This is our first bar of soap we made- ever! Peppermint (organic flakes) and tea tree oil. Coconut and olive oil base. I love the moisture it leaves and was so surprised when I used some little flakes to clean off some dishes and they too sparkled!

Thanks to our friends for visiting over the holidays and opening the pond for winter activities- skating, sliding, sledding, and big ball hacky sack, tea and cookies followed by home made goat cheese and crackers. There is nothing like fresh air, good friends and a silly chihuahua to shake off the stress of the holidays.
A big thanks Jon for clearing the snow from the ice.
