Huge shoutout to our dive instructor, Milan.
I first met Milan during my Open Water certification at Haigh Quarry. On my very first descent, I panicked at only about 20 feet because the visibility was so different from anything I’d experienced. Instead of making me feel embarrassed or rushed, he stayed incredibly calm, patient, and reassuring. His confidence helped me regain mine.
Because of that experience, I specifically requested Milan when Matt and I signed up for our Advanced Open Water certification.
Today was our deep dive, and I’ll admit… I went into it thinking, “I’ve done deep dives in the Caribbean. No problem.” Haigh had other plans. 😅 Pitch-black water is a completely different experience.
I felt that panic start to creep back in, but this time I heard Milan’s voice in my head and remembered everything he taught me during my first panic. I slowed down, trusted my training, and made it through.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that no two dives are the same. Just because you’ve done something before doesn’t mean the conditions will be the same. Every environment deserves respect, and confidence should always be balanced with preparation.
Milan has helped both Matt and me become safer, more aware, and more confident divers. We couldn’t have asked for a better instructor.
Also… we’re officially Advanced Open Water certified! 🎉
Thanks, Milan, for your patience, your calm demeanor, and for giving us the skills to work through the moments that matter most. We truly appreciate everything you’ve done for us. 🌊🤿
