It was a messy night but we got to race!

A decent pill draw sent us out near the end of the Cadet field for qualifying but during our run the rain started to fall. After a couple rain showers and one wrecked Subaru track officials announced that we would all have another attempt at qualifying.

We locked into the A-main after qualifying 4th out of 24 cars. When the green flag dropped Ashton quickly moved forward but contact while racing for 2nd made him let off the gas pedal and fall back to 4th position. It took him several laps but he was able to regain 3rd place and started to close in on 2nd but ran out of laps.

Despite the rain delays and not having heat races it was still a strong night with lots of positives and a few opportunities to improve.

Kid’s Night Day 2 Recap

After qualifying and passing points were calculated we started 10th out of 14 in the A-main and that felt like a win in itself after the previous 3 races we’ve had.

When the green flag flew Ashton had a monster first lap passing four karts and advancing to the sixth position. After what seemed to be a handful of more cautions we found ourselves as high as third place with just a few laps to go. However, on the final restart Ashton fell back to fourth coming to the white flag.

To finish 4th out of 37 karts at Millbridge Speedway is certainly something to smile about. The competition is crazy good but the best part of it all is the friendships these kids have formed.

Quick recap of Kid’s Night #1

Qual P3 out of 37 karts, missed quick time by .010 seconds!

Heat Race: Start p4, Finish p4. CC missed the gear a bit which didn’t allow us to earn any passing points.

Qualifier: Start p2, Finish p5. The gear change seemed better but the kart didn’t handle well enough to regain more spots after a caution filled race that we were involved in the first yellow flag. Ashton did a great job nailing his restarts and missing more wrecks to rebound back in the top 5.

And after all that, we will roll off p10 in the A main tomorrow evening. The crew chief has a little bit of homework to do overnight to make the kart better for Ashton.
