While on a walk with my mom last night I was admiring these little flowers that are popping up all over throughout yards and along sidewalks and commented on how pretty they are. She mentioned that they were w**ds (this woman just knows her plants, she didn't mean any shade to these pretties).
But it got me thinking, a lot of the standards we hold ourselves to were just made up by someone and don't actually mean all that much if you stop to think about it.
Being a "w**d" doesn't mean you aren't an absolutely stunning human. Just because you don't fit the criteria to be a "proper flower" doesn't mean you aren't incredible!
So take that with you today, be awesome on your terms. Let's be gorgeous w**ds together! ๐บ๐

If you're looking for something I little different for lunch this week try this take on tuna salad!
It has water packed tuna, apple, jalapeรฑo, celery, and red onion, half a lemon's juice, mayo or yogurt (or both) & sea salt. Fair warning, the onion flavor does get more pronounced the next day so you could always leave it out if it's not your favorite. I ate mine open faced sandwich style over some sharp white cheddar cheese on toasted bread and it was amazing! It'd also be great with crackers or celery for even easier eating.

Anyone who has trained with me knows that I like to talk about feet. ๐ I'm always asking clients about their feet and encouraging that some portion of every session be done barefoot. It encourages better body awareness, helps engage more muscles, improves balance AND strengthens our feet in the process.
Do we need strong feet?
If you don't put much value in your feet, think about the role they play in how we are built, they are literally our foundation. A strong foundation creates lasting results.
So, why toe spacers? I'm not going to say these are something we all 'need'. I personally love toe spacers because they make my feet feel amazing after a long day and are also great tools for barefoot workouts. But they are definitely not required to build strong healthy feet. I also wouldn't recommend going out and buying an expensive pair either, especially if you aren't sure you're going to like them. I got the ones pictured for $10 and have a few other pairs that I got for similar prices.
What do they do?
The purpose of these spacers is to bring the foot back to its natural position, creating more space between the joints of the toes. A lot of the shoes we wear for work can squish our feet and puts extra pressure on these joints and it doesn't feel great.
So if you want to to relieve your tired & achy feet and you haven't found something that works yet here's a new option to consider!

Sometimes you don't want to do the thing, and that's ok! Some days you are only willing to give 50%, that's also ok!
This particular day I really didn't want to get out and skate the trail/distance I usually do, but I knew I'd feel better (physically & mentally) if I did.
So what did I do? I made a deal with myself that I could take as many breaks as I wanted and I could quit and turn around at any point. I relished every break I took, and felt great during & after!
Moral of the story: be kind to yourself, do the best you can today, and give yourself room to rest and be tired without feeling guilty.

I can't seem to find who originally said this, but I have been in love with this quote for a long time!
Now keep in mind it can take some effort to get yourself into this mindset. Especially when so much emphasis in our society is placed on "powering through" hardships, and the fitness world is full of messaging along the lines of "train til you puke". A mindset like that can send anyone into a state of burnout in no time.
Instead, Gradually work to bring your focus towards listening to what your body needs, instead of what you need of it. Give your body rest, nourishment, and respect. When your body tells you it's sore, tired, in pain, listen and find solutions. Anyone who's had there body scream (injuries, burnout, etc) knows it's not a pleasant (or productive) place to be. 2022 is the year of listening to our bodies!! ๐
