Despite the rain/lightening delay the Phoenix-Ginnings team came away with a win and had some fun along the way. We even got to sing happy birthday to our home plate umpire and an impromptu dance off with AC Storm.

We are all set for another weekend. Here is the schedule for our Saturday time in the sun. Let’s have some fun ladies.

Dropping the back shoulder? Let’s fix it! 🛠

What happens when we drop our back shoulder:
❌ usually led by transferring weight into front hip, causing backside to dip
❌ causes a “scooping” effect
❌ bat path is shaped like “U”

How to fix:
✅ keep weight in back side and driving your back hip to the pitcher, through the ball. Think “bellybutton to pitcher”

✅ Drill 1: no ball needed. Hold bat in elbow pits. Get into proper launch position. I like to say “sit in your back pocket”. Front foot lands, slight shoulder tilt. Bat with a slight angle up.

✅ Drill 2: repeat drill 1. Add ball. Rotate through the ball. If back shoulder drops, more than likely will miss ball and hit the tee.

✅ Drill 3: High tee. Forces player to keep hands high. Think to swing “shoulder to shoulder”. We don’t want to go “shoulder to pocket” 🙅🏻‍♀️. Get into proper launch position. You can check swing a couple times to see proper bat path. Then go into high tee swings.

Some of our girls are swinging for the fences but losing technique like those shown here. Quite a few shoulders and head leaving early or swinging up instead of through. Nice little video to help with that.

What a great weekend!!

We placed 3rd in the fence decorating competition. This means a $50 donation to HOPE house was made in our name.

Additionally, thank you for those who donated. Thanks to your generosity, we will be receiving a discount on a future USA tournament, this year or next.

Now let’s go back to work and sharpen those skills.
