"Jesse" showed up to class nervous about doing a push press.

She'd done them before - sort of. But something never felt right.

Coach walks over mid-set, watches one rep, and says: "Your weight's in your toes. Push through your heels and feel what happens."

She adjusts. One rep. Everything changes.

Suddenly the movement makes sense. Her legs are powerful. Her shoulders are stronger. She finishes the set with confidence.

That's what happens in every class at FCF and with every person who is "Jesse".

You don't just show up and work. You get coached through it. You learn why the movement matters. You feel the difference when you get it right. And next week, you remember.

That's the difference between a workout and actual change.

Thursday 5/28 at 6pm - Summer Nutrition Tips
Coach Clara will help you navigate summer eating without overthinking it. How to pack snacks for the pool. What to choose at the BBQ. Come with questions.

Every year, thousands of athletes take on Murph in different ways: with a vest, without one, partitioned, scaled, modified, partnered, or for the very first time.
And all of it counts.
Because Murph was never meant to exclude people.
It was meant to bring people together.

If this is your first Murph, here’s the most important thing to understand:
You do not need to β€œearn” your way into participating.
You do not need to finish Rx’d.
You do not need to go unpartitioned.
You do not need to chase someone else’s pace.

You just need to approach it with intention.
Start with a strategy.
Control your first run.
Partition the reps early.
Protect your grip and shoulders.
Break push-ups before you have to.

Most athletes move through Murph more successfully with manageable sets than by trying to hold onto large chunks for too long.
And if needed: scale it.

Reduce volume.
Modify movements.
Partner with a friend.
Remove the vest.

In CrossFit, scaling is not a lesser version of the workout.
It’s how more people get to experience it together.
That’s what matters.
Not your finish time.
Not whether you wore a vest.

What matters is showing up with your community and taking part in something bigger than yourself.

Murph - Monday at 8:00 AM

If you've never done it, Murph is a Hero workout honoring Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005. It's one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and another mile run.

It's brutal. It's humbling. And it's one of the most meaningful workouts you'll do all year.

This isn't about your time or proving anything. It's about remembering someone who gave everything - and testing what you're capable of in the process.

We'll have scaling options for everyone. First time? We'll walk you through it. Done it before? Come push yourself again.

Monday, 8:00 AM. Show up and honor the sacrifice.

Empowered Women's Strength Small Group

A small group strength training program led by Coach Clara, designed specifically for women who want to get stronger but don't know where to start - or feel intimidated by the idea of walking into a gym and figuring it out alone.

This isn't a big class where you're trying to keep up. It's 1-5 women max, coached through every lift, with programming tailored to where you actually are, not where you think you should be.

Maybe you've never lifted before.
Maybe you're recovering from an injury.
Maybe you just want someone watching your form and telling you when to add weight.
Maybe you're dealing with hormonal changes and your body feels like it's doing things without your permission.
This is for all of that.

Two 45-minute sessions per week. Three Days to choose from. Small group. Real coaching. A space where you can ask questions, move at your pace, and actually get stronger without feeling lost or overwhelmed.

In four weeks, the women who've done this tell us they sleep better, move easier, have more energy, and feel like themselves again.

If you've been thinking about strength training but didn't know how to start: this is how.

DM us for details, so we can find out where you are and meet you in your fitness journey!

Yesterday my mom hit a 215 # deadlift PR at 61 years old.
Happy Mother's Day and all that yadda yadda yadda...

It's about the room she was in when it happened.

My mom had to do a CrossFit Games semi-final workout, which meant finding certified judges aka not easy. We ended up at CrossFit Lee's Summit on Sunday with people we'd never met before. My friend Katie (one of my personal training clients and an absolute powerhouse) came to judge. We met their semi-final athlete Carrie and their crew.

As we kept loading the bar during the workout (not telling my mom the weight so it wouldn't get in her head), I realized I was the only guy in the room. My second realization was that I might've been the weakest person in the room too...

Three women who'd met my mom thirty minutes earlier and Katie who had met her once, 24 hours earlier, could not have been more invested. They stuck around, they changed her plates, and they SHOUTED for her. Like complete engrossed encouragement.

After the workout, Carrie (Heck, a GAMES athlete. If you don't know what that means, it means picture the fittest person you've ever met, and Carrie would use that person's workout as a warm up) talked to my mom in a way I never could. Not because I don't understand fitness. But because Carrie is a 50+ masters athlete who gets it in a way I just can't click on.

I talk a lot about males needing real companionship for emotional support.
Watching strong women lift together and support each other like this was something else entirely.
Gym girls might just be the most supportive population out there.
And they deserve environments where they can thrive and be strong.

I'm proud to have friends who fit in that category.

My mom is 61, and I get to work out with her whenever I want.

I watch her move better now than she did five years ago. I watch her get stronger. I watch her laugh with the other members between sets.

And I think about how rare that is: to be in your 30s and still have the chance to spend that kind of time with your mom. To share something that matters.

So this Mother's Day weekend, we're opening up the gym for anyone who wants to bring their mom and work out together.

Saturday, May 10th β€” everything is free:
πŸ‹οΈ 7am & 9am β€” Partner CrossFit workouts (no experience needed, we'll scale for anyone)
πŸ‘Ÿ 10:15am β€” Kids class, ages 3–7 (free for moms who want to bring the kids)
πŸ’ͺ 11am β€” Specialty Legends class for moms 55+ (bring your mom, work out with her)

If you've been wanting to share this part of your life with your mom, here's your chance.

Bright Spot Friday... Eleni!

Eleni came to FCF just under 3 years ago. She was excited to learn some new movements and get coached correctly on techniques.

Her (now husband) Jim, joined with her but his experience was mostly in powerlifting and strong man.

She immediately became the queen of outside the gym activities. She's led neighborhood cleanups, arts and crafts, and roller derby meetups.

She's such a pillar that it's easy to forget all of the MASSIVE wins she's having inside the gym as well.

This month alone she has:
πŸͺ’ Done her first rope climb
πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ RAN a 4 mile race
πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ Done a competition

You can see her most days of the week at 5:30 a.m. telling us the new cool thing going on in KC... This morning I believe it was that the gardening club that she's in charge of at the elementary school was excited for her to come back!

So freaking proud of you, but more lucky just to know you!
