Covid-19

On Thursday, March 12th we closed the PAL to the kids of our community. Although we hated to do so, the decision was an easy one to make. About 40% of our kids live with an eldery person, be it a grandparent or other relatives. We felt it would be irresponsible to do anything else. Like everyone else, we don’t know what is to come with this pandemic or when it will be safe to re-open.

Over the next several days and weeks we are anticipating that our kids and their families will have a real need for food. Many are currently living below the poverty level and work in some of the hardest hit industries, restaurant staff and hotel services. Several have already been furloughed.

We are beginning the process of putting together staple food packages for the members of our community. We will then be able to distribute them in the coming weeks as the need increases. We are currently accepting donations at the PAL of basic items such as beans, rice, cooking oil and canned vegetables. You can simply leave the items at our side door to limit exposure. This too shall pass, and until it does, and when it does, The Police Athletic League will be there to help those in need.
