Firm Foundations Monday, August 3, 2026 1 Corinthians 3:10–11
According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each person must be careful how he builds on it. For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

With the rapid growth of Los Angeles in the early 1900s, a new and larger water supply was needed. First the Los Angeles Aqueduct was constructed, but as population continued to increase, even more water was needed. Work on the St. Francis Dam, which would create a massive reservoir, began in 1922 and was completed in 1926. The dam was one of the largest built at that time, reaching nearly 200 feet above the river bed below. There was some concern about the nature of the rocks at the dam site, but engineers determined that it would be safe. They were wrong. On March 12, 1928, two years to the day after the reservoir started filling, the dam suffered a catastrophic failure. More than twelve billion gallons of water rushed downstream, emptying the lake in just over one hour. It is believed that at least 431 people perished in one of the worst engineering disasters in American history.

The men who designed and built the dam used their experience and judgment, along with the best techniques and materials available at the time. Yet all their work was undermined by hidden flaws in the foundation. What appeared strong and secure could not withstand the pressure placed upon it. The strength of a structure is determined not merely by what can be seen above ground, but by what supports it beneath the surface.

The same is true of our lives and our service for God. Good intentions, natural ability, and human wisdom are not enough to produce work of lasting spiritual value. Everything we do must be firmly grounded on Jesus Christ. Only a life built on Christ has a foundation strong enough to endure.

If we build our lives on the firm foundation of Christ, we can stand strong under the pressures of life.

Man… part of us can barely find the words to write this update.

Today was a day full of emotions.

He’s hurting.
He’s expressing himself.
He’s asking the hardest questions.
He’s exhausted.
He’s tired.

He’s coherent.

Seeing him become more aware is something we’ve prayed for every single day, but it’s also one of the hardest parts of this journey. Our hearts have broken all over again as we try to help him understand everything he’s been through.

The good news is he is completely off oxygen and breathing on room air! He got out of bed twice today and made it to the chair. That may sound like a small victory, but it is a huge step forward. Even though every movement hurts and every step is exhausting, he keeps pushing.

He is strong.
He is mighty.
He is unbelievably polite.

Through all of this, he’s thanked every nurse caring for him. He looked at me with his little crackly voice and said, “I love you.” And he refuses to let his daddy let go of him.

We are so incredibly grateful.

Please keep the prayers coming. Keep sending the positive thoughts. And if you know a little racer, hug them a little tighter tonight and keep them in your prayers too.

Case, we love you more than words could ever say.

God's Comfort from the Comforter Friday, July 31, 2026
John 14:16-18....... I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you. “I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.


There are many times as we go through life in a world damaged by sin that we experience heartache, suffering, loneliness, pain, and loss. These experiences do not prove that God has forsaken or forgotten us. In every trial we have the presence of the Holy Spirit who offers us comfort, not from a distance, but from a loving God who knows all about us—and who cares about us. “Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Having this unfailing source of comfort is important because there are times when it seems like no one understands what we are going through. God always does.

Charles Spurgeon said, “I am in distress, and want consolation. Some passer-by hears of my sorrow, and he steps within, sits down and essays to cheer me; he speaks soothing words; but he loves me not. His words run o’er me like oil upon a slab of marble—they are like the pattering rain upon the rock; they do not break my grief; it stands unmoved as adamant, because he has no love for me. But let someone who loves me dearly as his own life come and plead with me, then truly his words are music; they taste like honey; he knows the password of the doors of my heart, and my ear is attentive to every word.”

God knows that we need comfort and encouragement. He understands that our hearts are sometimes broken and grieving. He never forgets His children. God’s comfort, strength and help are always present with us. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

No child of God is ever left abandoned with a Divine source of comfort and encouragement.

Resistance Training Thursday, July 30, 2026 Romans 8:28
Now in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

One of the most famous athletes of the ancient world was a wrestler known as Milo of Croton. He won the wrestling competition at the Olympic Games six times. Many writers of the day described his incredible strength that easily allowed him to overwhelm his opponents. The story that Milo told about the source of his strength was that he picked up a calf on the day it was born and carried it on his shoulders. Day after day he did the same thing, growing stronger as the calf grew bigger. It was said that he could lift and carry a full grown bull. Whether or not all the details of that story are correct, Milo is credited as being the father of the technique known as progressive resistance training—using stronger and heavier weights over time to build strength.

There are many things that come into our lives that are difficult or unpleasant. None of them take God by surprise. None of them force Him to revise His plans. God’s plan is to use the circumstances and events of our lives for His glory and our good. When it seems like the weight is pressing down on us, we must remember that we do not face our trials alone or in our own strength. God promised, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. ” (Isaiah 43:2).

We must remember that God is always at work even when we do not understand what He is doing, and it is for His purpose.

It Can't Be Transferred Wednesday, July 29, 2026 Hebrews 2:9-10
But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of His suffering death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the originator of their salvation through sufferings.

Despite her high position, Princess Elizabeth lived under the same rationing restrictions as everyone else in Britain during and after World War II. The royal family used the same coupon system to obtain food, clothing, and other necessities, setting an example of shared sacrifice for the nation.

Rationing was still in effect in 1947 when Princess Elizabeth prepared to marry Prince Philip. To obtain the fabric for her wedding gown, she had to save enough clothing coupons. People from across the country sent her their own coupons as an expression of love and appreciation, but every one of them had to be returned. The law did not allow ration coupons to be transferred. No matter how generous the gifts were, Elizabeth could not use someone else’s coupons to purchase her dress.

No one else can pay the debt of sin that we owe for us. The fact that our parents or grandparents were Christians does not make us Christians. Their faith may influence us, and the truth they believed may be taught to us, but each person must personally respond to the gospel.

Some attempt to deal with their sin through good works, rule keeping, or religious observance, but none of these can pay the debt we owe. Our salvation cannot come from a family member, a church, or any effort of our own. It can come only through Jesus Christ. He went to the cross and endured the suffering our sins deserved. Salvation cannot be earned or inherited, but it is freely given to everyone who places faith in Him.

Every person must come to Christ and accept what He did without any additions in order to be saved.
