Lady Warriors Capture District Championship with Impressive Team Performance

The St. Pius X Lady Warriors delivered one of their best performances of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating familiar district rival Pembroke Hill in straight sets to claim the Class 3 District 15 Championship.

Having faced Pembroke Hill multiple times throughout the season, the Lady Warriors knew what to expect. But Saturday, Pius elevated its game when it mattered most. From the opening serve, the team played with confidence, intensity, and precision, showcasing an impressive combination of offensive firepower and relentless defense.

The Lady Warriors’ offensive efficiency was a standout, with four hitters combining for 39 kills and an impressive .298 hitting percentage. Mikayla Fox led the attack with 13 kills and an outstanding .478 hitting percentage, while Avery Smith added eight kills with a .353 hitting percentage. Gianna Termini contributed nine kills, Piper Christensen added ten, and Olivia Watts had four kills, giving Pius a balanced attack that kept Pembroke Hill on its heels throughout the match.

Senior Presleigh Gross posted an impressive 2.67 passer rating, helping get the offense started. Setter Maddy Collignon directed the offense with 39 assists, consistently finding her hitters and creating opportunities across the net.

Defensively, the Lady Warriors were equally impressive. Alaina Ortiz anchored the back row with 17 digs, while Bernadette Shields, Presleigh Gross, and Drew Rupnow added another 17 digs. The team’s determination to keep the ball alive and turn defensive plays into offensive opportunities helped Pius maintain control throughout the match.

More than any individual statistic, Saturday’s victory was a testament to the Lady Warriors’ chemistry, trust and ability to execute together when the stakes were highest.

With the district championship secured, Pius advances in postseason play with momentum and confidence.

If Saturday’s performance is any indication, the Lady Warriors will be a tough team to beat as they continue their pursuit of getting back to St. Joe.

St. Pius X JV Falls to Center, 2–1

The St. Pius X JV Warriors battled hard against Center but came up just short, falling 2–1. George scored the Warriors’ lone goal, keeping Pius in the fight as the team continued to compete until the final whistle. A tough result, but a determined effort from the Warriors!

The St. Pius X Warriors earned an impressive 3–1 victory over Center with a strong all-around performance! Brady, Jude, and Simon each found the back of the net to lead the Warriors’ attack. The team showed great effort and teamwork from start to finish to secure another big win. Way to go, Warriors!

SENIOR NIGHT. WARRIOR NIGHT. WHAT. A. GAME. ⚔️💙💛

On a night dedicated to celebrating our seniors, the Warriors gave everyone a game to remember.

SPX went toe-to-toe with a tough, gritty Oak Park team in a back-and-forth battle from start to finish. Oak Park struck first, but the Warriors kept answering. SPX built a 28-20 halftime lead before Oak Park tied it 28-28 in the third quarter. Then, with the game on the line, the Warriors delivered two fourth-quarter field goals to secure the 34-28 victory.

There were big plays everywhere. Junior linebacker #21 Cameron Phillips took an interception back for a touchdown, junior #11 Chase Brookings hauled in a touchdown from junior quarterback #1 Jake Nichols, and senior running back #29 Elias Has found the end zone twice on the ground. SPX finished with 374 yards of offense while forcing three Oak Park interceptions.

But Senior Night is about more than a final score.

It is about the young men who have poured years into this program. The practices. The early mornings. The wins and losses. The brotherhood. The lessons. And the opportunity to put on that SPX uniform one more time in front of the home crowd.

And what better way to finish it?

Oak Park had the football with one last opportunity.

St. Pius X Trap & S***t Club participated in a season-ending trap shooting tournament, competing against Kearney, Liberty, Smithville, Savannah, Lathrop, and a local 4H Club.

St. Pius X tied for first place with Kearney School District as the top team, with the ultimate honors being awarded to Kearney based on the tiebreaker being the top score of the top shooter from each team deciding the overall winner. Our team score was calculated from the Top 8 scores, which were posted by Hudson Hurst (89), Jack Karlstrand (88), Gregory Parr (86), Paul Raymer (82), Max Tebbenkamp (81), Rogers Nyberg (80), Alex Tomeldan (79), Isaiah Widman (79).

St. Pius X received a second-place squad award for the top 5 shooters in any given squad. Those shooters were Jack Karlstrand, Hudson Hurst, Alex Tomeldan, Rogers Nyberg, and Gavin Weimhold.

Individually, St. Pius X’s Hudson Hurst took 4th place overall in the tournament, breaking 89 of 100 targets, with Jack Karlstrand just outside of the top 5 with a score of 88.

The season has come to an end, and we look forward to an exciting Spring season ahead.

Warriors Dominate Benton 5-1

The Warriors delivered an impressive performance, earning a convincing 5-1 victory over St. Joe Benton! Jude Elliot led the way with two goals, while Brady Tischinski, Parker St. Ama, and Simone Elliot each added a goal. The Warriors showcased their offensive firepower and teamwork to secure a big win. Way to go, Warriors.

Warriors Make History at State

The Warriors' tennis season ended with a 4th-place finish at the Missouri state tournament, both in singles and in doubles.

Singles: Evie Ward
Evie Ward opened the state tournament with two dominant wins. In the first round, she beat Leyla Ali of Warrensburg 6-0, 6-0, not dropping a single game. In the second round, she defeated Peyton Neidenbach of Helix High School 6-3, 6-1. On the second day, she fell to Parkway West and Camdenton High School, finishing 4th in the state of Missouri, a result that puts her in the Warrior record books.

Doubles: Avery Smith and Sydney Mitchell
Avery Smith and Sydney Mitchell also made school history, and they did it the hard way. In their first match, they dropped the opening set 0-6 against Springfield Central, then battled back to win 6-3 and took the deciding super tiebreak 12-10. In their next match, they lost the first set 1-6 to St. Dominic, then won the second set 6-0 and the tiebreak 10-7. Winning both matches after losing the first set shows the grit and teamwork that carried them through. On the second day, they fell to Webster Groves and Helias, finishing 4th.
