OUR FIRST IN-HOUSE TOURNAMENT

And what an awesome morning this was!

Today we hosted our first-ever in-house tournament at RGK, featuring incredible matches and valuable learning opportunities.

We ran 5 divisions packed with exciting matchups, high adrenaline, plenty of Jiu-Jitsu, and a great morning spent with our RGK family.

We kicked off the day at 9:00 AM with a rules briefing, giving everyone the chance to learn more about competition rules before the action began.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and gave it their best in every match, as well as to all the spectators who came out to watch.

Special thanks to our referees and table staff: Dan, Jason, Telma, Diana, Marta, Brian and Prof. Pedro.

Get ready, because this is officially a new tradition - our next tournament is coming up in March 2027, and that edition will also feature kids' divisions!

RESULTS: NAGA FARMINGTON

This past Saturday, we competed at NAGA Farmington with 10 athletes - 4 in the kids' divisions and 6 in the adults.

Although this wasn't a primary target for us since we didn't run a special training camp for it, the results were brilliant and a true reflection of the amazing level of training we maintain on the mats every single day.

We conquered:

6 GOLD MEDALS

3 SILVER MEDALS

2 BRONZE MEDALS

For a total of 24 fights won by our athletes!

Huge congrats to all the competitors, and thank you to everyone who came by to support the team: having so many of our people there cheering us on meant everything.

We are definitely doing the right things, and we are growing and improving every step of the way.

💥 2026/2027 OFFICIAL SCHEDULE 💥

Our new schedule is here - a perfect combination of class times and programs designed to meet the needs of every age, experience level, and goal.

From our regular Gi classes to No-Gi training, and from MMA to Striking 101, we offer something for every adult, whether you're just starting or already experienced.

For kids, we have three age-specific groups called Ninjas; Samurai and Future Champs - featuring Gi, No-Gi, Self-Defense, and, of course, plenty of fun!

We also offer 6:00 AM classes for the early birds, as well as noon classes for those who want to make the most of every break in their day while learning and staying in shape.

SILVER AT GRAPPLING INDUSTRIES

Today we had our athlete Jace Stromberg Jace Stromberg competing in Draper for the feather weight division title.

He did 4 fights, getting 3 WINS, 2 of them via submission - conquering the Silver Medal.

Thank you to everyone that came over to support him and to the whole team for creating an amazing training environment in our gym.

NOTHING LIKE THE SMELL OF A CLEAN MAT IN THE MORNING

Our mats are cleaned and disinfected every day, either at the end of the day or after the 6:00 AM class.

We take the responsibility of keeping our mats clean and safe from bacteria very seriously.

We ask all of our students to do the same by following these hygiene rules at all times:

✅️ Keep your gi and training gear clean.

🚷 Nobody likes to train with a stinky partner. If you can smell it, so can your training partner.

✅️ Keep your fingernails and toenails short. A scratch during training dramatically increases the chances of developing a skin infection.

✅️ Make sure your hands and feet are clean before stepping onto the mat. If you've been wearing sandals throughout the day, your feet may be carrying all kinds of bacteria. Your hands also come into contact with countless surfaces and people every day. A quick wash before class and using hand sanitizer go a long way toward keeping our mats clean.

✅️ If you had a spicy lunch or snack with onions, garlic, or other strong-smelling foods, chances are your breath will let everyone know. A quick mouthwash or a piece of gum will save your training partner from finding out what you had for lunch - unless you want to tell them.

✅️ If you leave the mat during class to use the restroom or get water from our water dispenser, please put on shoes or sandals. Even though our gym is cleaned every day, hundreds of people walk in from outside, so the floor is not as clean as the mats.

✅️ Most importantly, if you're sick or feeling under the weather, stay home. Whether it's the flu, a cold, or you're just starting to feel sick, take the time to recover and come back when you're feeling better. Illness spreads quickly on the mats - not only to other students but also to our coaches. If our coaches get sick, classes may have to be canceled, which affects everyone.

HELIO GRACIE WORE A BLUE BELT

Yes, Grand Master Hélio Gracie himself became widely known for wearing a blue belt later in life.

In the early days of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, during the 1930s and 1940s, the Gracie family used a ranking system with only a few belt colors: white for beginners, light blue for instructors and students with a high technical level, dark blue for head instructors and masters, and black to distinguish elite competitors from regular students.

When the modern colored belt system began to be adopted in the 1960s, many members of the Gracie family were resistant to the change.

Among them was Hélio Gracie, who made several statements expressing his dissatisfaction with the way black belts were being awarded to practitioners who, in his opinion, had not yet reached the technical standard the rank should represent.

Because of this, Hélio famously said that he would remain a blue belt, explaining that the black belt no longer carried the meaning it once had. He chose to continue wearing the original blue belt as a symbol of the system created by his family.

It is very common to see him wearing a blue belt in videos and photographs from the later years of his life.

His decision reflected not only his determination to preserve the original ideals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but also served as a reminder of what a black belt should represent: technical excellence, character, and a lifelong contribution to the legacy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN NATIONALS

For the first time in our team's history, we competed at the IBJJF American Nationals, one of the most prestigious and competitive tournaments in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the United States.

Our athletes were: Poppy, William, Julia, Renzo, Telma, Jace, Rachel, Dre, Shane, and Donovan.

Our results:

> Telma (GI)– 2 wins, 1 loss – Silver Medal
> Donovan (Gi) – 1 win, 1 loss – Silver Medal

> Jace (GI) – 1 win, 1 loss – Bronze Medal
> Dre (NOGI) – 1 win, 1 loss – Bronze Medal
> Rachel (NOGI) - 1 loss, Bronze Medal
> Donovan (NOGI) - 1 loss - Silver Medal

The athletes who didn't win matches or didn't reach the podium fought with courage and represented our team with pride.

We are incredibly proud of every single one of them and grateful that they wore the RGK flag on one of the biggest stages in our sport.

We can bring more athletes to this event, win more medals, and produce future American National Champions. We have no doubt about that.

In the end of this long tournament, professor Pedro said:

"In just one year leading this team, I can already see the growth, ambition, and potential that is developing within our academy.
But, overall, our athletes experienced the intensity and competitiveness of this tournament firsthand.
We have adjustments to make, technical details to refine, and experience to gain - but we are, without a doubt, on the right path.
As Head Coach, I am deeply thankful to every athlete who competed, as well as to those who didn't compete but continue to show up every day, helping raise the level of our training and making their teammates better.

I'm also incredibly grateful to the parents who made sacrifices to bring their children to this tournament and who trust the work we are building at RGK.

A special thank you to our amazing coaches, who are always willing to step in, help lead classes, cover for me when needed, and push this team forward every single day.

Now it's time to stay hungry, work harder, and keep aiming higher."
