Those ears are telling you something.🐎
Ever wonder what your horse is trying to say? Their ears are one of the best places to start. Horses use them to show us what they’re paying attention to, how they’re feeling, and sometimes when something isn’t quite right.
Here are a few things to watch for:
👂Ears pricked forward: Your horse is focused on something ahead. It could be a sound, something interesting, or a training cue. If their head is raised and they seem tense, they may be feeling alert or concerned.
👂Ears turned backward: They may be listening to something behind them or focusing on their rider. It can also be a sign of concentration.
👂One ear forward and one ear back: Your horse may be keeping track of their surroundings while also listening to you.
👂Ears pinned back: This can be a sign that your horse is uncomfortable, irritated, or wants some space. It can also indicate pain, so it’s important to pay attention to the rest of their body language and check that their tack fits properly.
The biggest thing to remember is that ears don’t tell the whole story. Look at your horse’s eyes, head, tail, and overall posture too. Learning to read these little signals can help you better understand your horse and build a stronger partnership.💛
