Subject: Freeze Protection for Your Pool Equipment
Dear Valued Customer,
With an upcoming freeze expected, we want to share important steps you can take now to help protect your pool equipment and prevent costly damage.
Please read the following carefully:
• Tarp your pool equipment. Do not place a blanket over the tarp. Blankets absorb rainwater, which can freeze and cause damage.
• If you do not have a freeze guard, set your equipment to run continuously.
– We recommend customers with IQPUMP controllers or SpeedSet controllers create a freeze schedule, so the pump runs 24 hours a day.
– If you need assistance setting this up, please contact us.
• If your equipment is running, do not turn it off.
During extended freezes, pumps may run nonstop for multiple days—this is normal and necessary to prevent freezing.
• Add water to your pool now.
During freezing weather, pools can evaporate faster than during hot summer days. Fill your pool ahead of time and keep a hose inside your house so it’s ready if additional water is needed.
If you lose power for an extended period of time:
• Turn the pool breaker or power switch OFF.
• When power is restored, the system will try to restart automatically. If the equipment is frozen solid, this can cause pipes or equipment to burst.
If the system is frozen or you expect extended power loss, remove as many drain plugs as possible:
• Main pool pump (pump with clear lid):
– Has two drain plugs located on the bottom (right or left).
– Remove the clear lid and both plugs.
– Place the plugs inside the pump basket.
• Cleaner / booster pump (smaller black pump):
– Has one drain plug located on the front bottom.
• Filter drain plug:
– Located either under the front of the filter, on the back near the bottom, or on the side near the bottom.
– These plugs may be tight and often require a tool.
• Open the air relief valve on top of the filter (near the pressure gauge).
– You will hear air being pulled in—this is normal and expected.
• Heater drain plug:
– Located on the side of the heater, usually near where the plumbing enters and exits the unit.
Taking these steps now can help prevent freeze-related damage. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you,
Mako’s Pool and Scuba

The best way to keep leaves, kids, pets, and yes, the occasional wayward car out of your pool in the off season is to have a safety cover installed. For as low as $1500, let your power bill, chemistry and bottom line relax for a few months.

Landing Page | My Site We are a pool company that keeps our word, communicates thoroughly, and takes full accountability for our customers projects and pool maintenance. Your one stop shop, so to speak. Lets see if we cant get a cover on that pool before the leaves start falling in earnest!

Memorial Day is upon us, which means most of our pools are open and being enjoyed. If you are one of the not so fortunate, and are having issues with chemistry balance, haziness, cloudiness, or heaven forbid, algae, please comment below with a picture. In a public forum, let's see if we can't help each other with advice, cost cutting measures, and avoidance of a certain pool franchises markup.
