I hate that I even have to make this post because I know it may upset someone, but this is something we have been running into quite a bit lately and I really need to address it. ❤️
We have been having a lot of no-shows for our free events. Yesterday's Mom Meet Up had 20 moms signed up, and only 6 showed up. It was still an amazing morning though 🫶
I know these events are free, and I truly understand that life happens. Kids get sick. Emergencies come up. Plans change. I'm not talking about those situations. I actually build 3 extra spots into our capacity specifically because I know some of that is going to happen.
What I'm asking is that you please don't sign up unless you are reasonably committed to coming. Not, "This looks fun, maybe if it works out that day we'll go."
And if something does come up, please just send me a quick message or cancel your registration. That's it. ❤️
When we are waiting for people who don't show up, it affects more than just me.
1. It affects the businesses we partner with.
Every business has a set capacity for our group, and they plan around the number of people who register. Some businesses have even brought in an extra employee to make sure our group is well taken care of when we have a larger turnout.
When only 50–60% of the people who registered actually show up, that extra employee wasn't necessarily needed, and it can cost the business more money when they are already generously donating their space, time and energy to us.
2. It affects the time and materials I put into these events.
I spend a lot of time putting crafts, activities and classes together based on our registration numbers. I do all of this for free, on top of being a mom of 3 myself.
I don't mind doing it. I genuinely love creating these opportunities for families.
But please remember that there is a real person on the other end of those registrations putting all of this together.
You wouldn't make plans with a friend, ask them to bring things for your kids, have them prepare everything... and then just ghost them. 😂
Please don't do that to me. ❤️
3. And honestly, this is the one that worries me the most.
When you sign up and don't show, you are taking a spot away from someone else who may really want or need to be there.
I have had to tell people that an event is full and that we can't accommodate them because I have to respect the capacity the business has given us.
And I can't help but worry that someday the person I'm telling "sorry, we're full" to might be a mom who is desperately needing connection, friendship or a little bit of support that day.
Maybe she is having a really hard time. Maybe she feels lonely. Maybe she just really needs to get out of the house and be around other moms.
And if I had an accurate headcount, I could have said yes. Come join us. There's room for you. ❤️
That's why I'm asking this.
I know this isn't the most fun post to make, and if it rubs you the wrong way, I hope you can take a step back and understand where I'm coming from.
These events are meant to be welcoming, low-pressure opportunities to connect with other families. I want to keep them free and accessible, and I want businesses to continue being willing to partner with us.
So please help me make that possible.
If you register, please make every effort to come. And if you can't, just let me know. No explanation necessary. No guilt. Just a quick heads up so I know you're not coming. 🫶
Thank you for understanding and for helping me take care of this little community we're building together. ❤️
