As the owner of a successful fitness and wellness business, Wende has dedicated her career to helping individuals improve their physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life through sustainable lifestyle changes and personalized wellness programs. While she remains actively involved in training clients daily, she also leads a dedicated team that helps oversee the continued growth and operation of her business.

Wende’s connection to the river began during her college years in San Marcos, where she first fell in love with the water and proudly became what she calls a “river rat.” During that time, she developed a deep appreciation for the role rivers play in recreation, wellness, conservation, and community identity. Her professional experience also includes a contract with the City of San Marcos to develop and operate fitness programming out of the city’s newly built recreation center, giving her firsthand experience working alongside municipalities and community organizations to create impactful public wellness initiatives.

Known for her strong communication skills and commitment to service, Wende regularly writes wellness columns focused on practical health topics, personal growth, and community well-being. She is passionate about encouraging healthier lifestyles while also promoting balance, resilience, and connection to the outdoors.

Wende brings to the Guadalupe River Center a unique combination of business leadership, wellness expertise, public program development, and a genuine personal connection to river culture in the Texas Hill Country. Her lifelong appreciation for the Guadalupe River and surrounding communities fuels her desire to support conservation, education, and responsible stewardship efforts for future generations.

✨ Join us in welcoming Dr. Matt Goodwyn to the GRC Board of Directors! ✨

“I am excited to join the Guadalupe River Center Board and to be part of an effort that will bring new opportunities to our river in meaningful and accessible ways. The Center will create a space where everyone can enjoy the Guadalupe, whether through sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply spending time along the water. More than anything, it will serve as a true ‘living room on the river’ for the Kerrville community, welcoming people of all ages and interests to connect and enjoy the river together.” – Dr. Matt Goodwyn

Matt serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Schreiner University, where he works to provide a holistic student experience by creating opportunities that foster growth in spirit, mind and body.

His passion for community, education and meaningful connection makes him a wonderful addition to the GRC Board as we continue building a place centered around recreation, learning and access to the Guadalupe River.

Thank you, Matt, for sharing your leadership, perspective and heart with the GRC team. We are thrilled to have you on board! 💙

Last year on Giving Tuesday, our community came together to “Help Heal the River." 💚🌱💧

Because of your generosity, dozens of trees have now been planted along Nimitz Lake to help restore the riparian buffer, strengthen the shoreline and support the long-term health of the Guadalupe River ecosystem.
So far, we have planted 30 trees, with at least 12 more added along neighboring properties surrounding the lake.

These plantings represent more than restoration. They are an investment in the future of our river, our environment and future generations who will one day walk beside them.

Thank you for continuing to stand with the river and with our community.

After an incredible weekend at our 2nd Annual “Let’s Go to the Lake” Community Celebration, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the journey that has brought the Guadalupe River Center to this moment 💙

Over the past year, our community has experienced both heartbreak and hope. Through it all, we have continued moving forward together with a shared vision for a place centered around recreation, education, healing and connection along the Guadalupe River.

This year, thanks to the transformational $2 million investment from the Adam R. Scripps Foundation, we will break ground on the Adam R. Scripps Riverfront Center. The first building to be built on the Guadalupe River Center campus. 🎉

We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, supporter and community member who has believed in this vision from the beginning and helped bring us to this point.

Together, we are creating something truly special for generations to come.
