I will be bicycling 100 miles on my birthday on June 8, from Key Largo to Key West, to raise money for the Scleroderma Foundation, and to honor my Dad.

About to Launch!

I love my training rides, as they often take me to places in the Keys I've never been.

So...where was this? Be specific! 😁

Chicago - Feelin' Stronger Everyday 06/03/2019

This song is pure fun, and after my 58 mile training ride yesterday, definitely describes how I am, in fact, feeling stronger every day. 😎

One more training ride on Wednesday, before the big ride on Saturday. Wheeee!

Chicago - Feelin' Stronger Everyday One of Chicago's greatest hits! Originally on the Chicago VI album! A great way to pump yourself up!

No particular reason for this, other than I like the song, it’s a damn fun song, and honestly....how many songs out there mention bicycles AT ALL?

After all these years in the Florida Keys, I still manage to find places I've never been.

17 days to go, and I'm raring to go. Next long training ride: tomorrow.

Took Rebecca for a spin today. My goal was at least 40 miles, which I'd had as a goal many times recently, but had not achieved. Until now.

A nice little 52 mile training ride. Feeling pretty good after the fact, too, which bodes well for the June 8 ride. Definitely stronger than I've been in a long time!

And tonight, I'm off to work! Bicycling there, of course.

My story:

On June 8, I will turn 49, a milestone my father, Norm, pictured here, never achieved, dying from Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease, at the age of 48. On this day, to both celebrate my birthday, and honor my Dad, I will do something I have never done, but always wanted to: ride 100 miles on a bicycle in a single day, known in cycling as a century. I will wake up on my birthday in Key Largo, and will ride from Mile Marker 100 down the Overseas Highway to Mile Marker 0 in Key West.

I am doing this as a charity fundraiser to benefit the Scleroderma Foundation, and any support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. This is a fantastic non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for support for scleroderma patients, education about scleroderma, and research into both treatments and a potential cure for the disease. (You can read more about the Foundation and the disease at Scleroderma.org.)
