To Our Dear Divers and Friends ~
We know this will come as a surprise to many of you. Soon we will complete the sale of Mike Severns Diving. We are happy to say that our boat, Pilikai, will continue in service with new owners, Javier and Christina Cantellops, under their company name of Island Style Diving.
For the past 43 years we have had the unparalleled joy of sharing underwater adventures with you. The discoveries, the epic animal encounters, the beautiful photographs and videos, the laughter and pure fun of spending time together as divers will be treasured for the rest of our lives.
We are still as passionate as ever about giving people the highest quality diving on Maui and would have wanted to continue forever, but we feel it is better to exit gracefully when we are still healthy and not too old, rather than wait until we have passed this point. The time felt perfect to pass the torch to the next generation and we are thrilled to be doing that with Javier and Christina.
The hardest part of letting go will be not seeing our repeating divers, some of whom have been with us the entire 35 years that I have been here at Mike Severns Diving (and a handful of you - you know who you are - for even a few years before I came along).
We humbly thank you for trusting us to keep you safe, for wanting to learn about the animals, for making us laugh, and for bringing us pizza, beer from the Pacific Northwest, pocket cheese, peanut butter Cliff bars and of course, bacon. We are deeply grateful for your support of us as individuals as well as your support of Mike Severns Diving during its 43 years of operation. You will never know how much you have enriched our days.

Yesterday, after an 18-month battle with cancer, we lost our wonderful, charming divemaster Poki Breeding. Some of you may also know that she is the beloved partner of our captain Andy. She came into our lives 6 years ago and delighted us with her British accent, her nonstop cheeriness and her hilarious wit. She absolutely loved the ocean and its creatures and could not fathom any other type of work.
Dear Poki, the fortitude you showed throughout, but particularly in the end, is something that none of us will ever forget. You gave it your all, just like you did with everything in your beautiful, adventurous life.
We miss you already treasured friend. We will always miss you.

There can’t be many places in the world like Maui where you can see 60 feet underwater all the way to the top of a 5,700 ft. volcano in a SINGLE PHOTO. There just can’t be...

Yes, this is real! This is a tiger cowrie that we know because of the two heart-shaped spots at the front of his/her shell. No Photoshopping was involved. Pretty sweet, huh?
