"Develop Spiritual Sensitivity."
Praise Dancers,
This month, our focus is
"Ministering With Intention, Not Just Movement"
Our third principle is:
"Develop Spiritual Sensitivity."
As praise Dancers, preparation is important. We should know our choreography, understand our formations, practice our transitions, and be prepared to minister with excellence. However, preparation should never make us so rigid that we become unable to recognize what the Holy Spirit is doing in the moment.
There may be times when you have practiced a movement repeatedly, but while ministering, you sense that you should remain still. There may be a moment when the choreography says to transition, but the atmosphere calls for you to linger. There may even be times when something happens during worship that was never rehearsed, and you must have enough spiritual sensitivity to respond appropriately without creating confusion.
This does not mean abandoning choreography whenever you feel emotional or doing whatever you want during ministry. Spiritual sensitivity requires discernment, maturity, submission, and self-control. Not every spontaneous thought is an instruction from the Holy Spirit. We must learn the difference between being spiritually led and simply being personally impulsive.
This is why your private relationship with God matters so much. You cannot expect to recognize His direction publicly if you are unfamiliar with His leading privately. Prayer, studying the Word, worship, and spending time in God's presence help develop your ability to discern His direction.
John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
The more familiar we become with God's voice, the more confidently we can recognize His leading. Choreography gives us structure, but the Holy Spirit gives us direction. We need both.
This week, spend time praying before you practice. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you not only "how" to minister the piece, but what He desires to communicate through you. Practice the choreography until you know it well, but remain spiritually sensitive enough to recognize when God wants to do something beyond what you rehearsed.
"Prepare with excellence, but leave room for God to lead."
