STATE BOUND AGAIN! The Lake Washington Kangs baseball program heads into tomorrow’s WIAA 4A State Tournament as the #14 seed. They will head to Tahoma HS for a regional that features #3 seed Tahoma (host), the #6 seed Kamiakin, and the #11 seed and KingCo for Eastlake. The State trip is the sixth consecutive for LW, with two of those trips resulting in WIAA state championships (2019, 2025).

Hope to see all of Kang Nation tomorrow morning supporting the 2026 squad in their quest for another Final Four berth!

TICKET PUNCHED!! 🎟️

With all eyes on them as the last high school baseball game in Washington prior to the State tournament, the Kangs showed up as always, outlasting Lake Stevens 5-3 in 9 innings to earn their way back to State!!

Senior pitching carried the night, with Kane Nishikawa and Will Cooley each pitching well in extended work. Nishikawa got the start and allowed 1 earned over four, with Cooley working the final 5 innings, not allowing a single hit while striking out 6. Nishikawa also carried LW at the plate, driving in 3 of their 5 runs, including the go ahead score in the top of the 9th on an infield single. He would come around to score on an RBI single by sophomore Matthew Milinkovic, extending the lead to 5-3.

Cooley finished the deal with some help of 9th inning defense wizardry by junior Noah Ewing and senior Cooper Vincent. Vincent caught the final out, securing the win and the 6th consecutive State berth for Lake Washington.

Next up: Selection Sunday, where the Kangs will find out their first round opponent. Brackets are set to be released around noon… GO KANGS!!

KANG NATION! PACK FUNKO!! WINNER-TO-STATE SATURDAY AT 7:00 PM!

Jack Wilson continued his dominant late-season run, helping keep Lake Washington’s season alive as they downed Bothell 4-0 on Thursday afternoon. The junior right-hander shutout the Cougars, striking out 6 and extending his scoreless streak to 30 innings in the process.

LW would get on the board in the bottom of the second, with Junior Noah Kwon delivering the games first run with an RBI single. Fellow junior Sam Mehlberg followed that up with a 2-run single of his own, staking the Kangs to a 3-0 lead.

Wilson cruised in the middle innings, setting down 12 straight Bothell hitters at one point. Lake Washington would add an insurance run in the 6th, as senior Brady Carlson singled home sophomore Matthew Milinkovic with the 4th run of the game.

The Cougars had the tying run in the on-deck circle in the 7th, but Wilson got a Bothell pinch hitter to fly out to left field for the game’s final out, extending the Kangs season for at least one more game. They will take on Lake Stevens Saturday in a winner-to-State, loser-out game at 7:00 PM at Funko Field. We need all of Kang Nation to pack the park and support the squad as they try to make their 6th consecutive state tournament appearance.

Home runs by senior Kane Nishikawa and junior Sam Mehlberg were not enough on Saturday, as the Kangs fell to Eastlake 5-3 in the District 1/2 4A tournament.

Nishikawa’s home run was the first of the season for LW, easily clearing the left field wall and tying the game at 2 in the 4th inning. The Wolves immediately took the lead back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth and extended that lead with a single run in the 5th. Mehlberg’s solo shot in the top of the 6th cut the lead to 5-3, but the Kangs would not threaten again, dropping the game and falling into the loser’s bracket.

It’s now do or die time for Lake Washington, with a loser out game on Thursday against Bothell. Game time is set for 4:00 PM at Funko Field.
